Re: Yuki Bhambri
He is going into the FO just to earn money. Not that I am criticizing that. He perhaps only cares about the hard court season.

Re: Yuki Bhambri
You get €10k just to appear for the qualies. Why not? None of us are giving Yuki that money. So when may well earn it.

Re: Yuki Bhambri
Yes, of course he should play it. What we are saying is if he had played at least a couple of matches on singles on clay, he would have had a better chance to convert that €10k to €16K and maybe more by winning matches in qualies.

Re: Yuki Bhambri
I think he doesn't see that as realistically possible. He understands he body best. Playing doubles is helping him do away with the rustiness without hurting his body. Then maybe be one day (i guess us challenger season), IF his body with stood the pressures of the game, he will start playing challengers again.

Re: Yuki Bhambri
I agree with his current approach. As much as it is frustrating to us fans sitting on the sidelines, I think it is better for him to take care of his body and maximize the playing weeks through the year. Playing doubles and singles consistently for multiple weeks is probably never an option for him, especially during the comeback...

Re: Yuki Bhambri
I hope Yuki is planning to play singles in some grass Challengers -- hopefully starting as early as next week. He really should give himself more of a chance in the Wimbledon qualifiers!

Re: Yuki Bhambri
There is no grass challenger next week. There are 3 grass challengers starting from the week after that- Surbitron, Nottinham and then Ikeley. But they are big challengers where Yuki will not get into qualies with his current ranking. He will need to use his PR which he can probably use only at 1 of the 3 challengers or at most 2. He is not in the entry list for Surbitron, So, i guess he may play one of the challengers week after that using his PR and then Wimbledon qualies.

Re: Yuki Bhambri
I hope he finds a way to play at Surbiton (before the rush of players coming to play the grass Challengers). Because there is just one grass Challenger in each week prior to Wimbledon, they are always very tough fields. Surbiton is during the second week of the French Open, so it is always worth trying to play there. Nottingham and Ilkley are the following two weeks, just before the Wimbledon qualifiers at Roehampton. Yuki has said that he plans to use his PR to get into the qualifiers or main draw at Queen's Club (which is the same week as the Ilkley Challenger). Let us see if he turns up to play singles at all before Roehampton...

Re: Yuki Bhambri
Yuki has entered Surbiton, albeit using his current ranking. He is probably hoping to get into qualies using his current ranking without having to use his PR.

Re: Yuki Bhambri
Dont think that will happen. Unfortunately his current ranking is too low to make it to this level challenger qualies.prashanthm wrote: ↑Wed May 18, 2022 12:47 pm Yuki has entered Surbiton, albeit using his current ranking. Re: Yuki Bhambri
Entry list for all 3 grass challengers came out and Yuki is not in any of the entry list with his PR. Nor he is in the qualifying entry list at any of the ATP tournaments on grass - Queens/Halle and all.
Instead, he is in the doubles entry list next week at Projstov challenger 100 along with Saketh.
So, looks like he is going to get into Wimbledon qualies without any grass practice. :damn
Getting more and more convinced that he is turning into a doubles specialist.

Re: Yuki Bhambri
He has entered all available tournaments the next two weeks, but with this regular ranking. Which means he is at least 30 OUT of getting into the qualies. That's why he doesn't show up in the top-20 ALT list...
He's probably saving the protected ranking for retirement or for the hardcourt season where he is more comfortable and when he is more confident of his own body....

Re: Yuki Bhambri
Grass will be much easier on his knees. He should have used the PR in at least some of the grass tournaments in Europe (Halle, Stuttgart, Marbella). That way he would have earned some good practice, and also possibly some points and confidence with a few wins. Going to Wimbledon without any singles match-practice is just as asinine as what he did at the FO.

Re: Yuki Bhambri
I was kind of thinking Yuki will at least play doubles on grass, but it doesn't look like that. If not for singles, Yuki/Saki could at least have played doubles in Surbiton. They could have easily made the main draw with their ranking....
