Re: Yuki Bhambri
No it is not poor planning , but visa constraints ,in absence of multiple entry visa to Canada , he can only use it once to play DC and hence will have to stay in USA and wait for some divine intervention in Cincinnati .
And after US Open he will be forced to stay in US and not play the Canadian Futures as he will have to attend the camp in NY held by Mahesh.
Rohan meanwhile wont be affected by the camp as he would not have any tournaments to play after the USOpen.

Re: Yuki Bhambri
I think it's quite easy to get multiple-entry visas to Canada if you have one for the US (judging from my own experiences over the years). Also quite easy to get a 5-year multiple entry visa for Canada if you apply through normal channels. So just a small amount of planning would have sufficed to get him to Montreal or Vancouver AND Davis Cup later. (He has already played Gatineau and Granby, so presumably he has a multiple-entry visa for Canada already; it would be quite bizarre to obtain single-entry visas each time).

Re: Yuki Bhambri
Are we sure, he is not playing in Vancouver? Not going to Montreal had to do with the flight options rather than Visa. I had actually checked all flight options after Yuki's game and could not find any available combinations for him to reach on time for qualies. Not sure, why would he not play in Vancouver?

Re: Yuki Bhambri
Yuki hasn't yet withdrawn from Vancouver. He is 9th on the list of alternates for the main draw.

Re: Yuki Bhambri
Huh? Then it is even poorer planning, as he should have had multiple entry visas to both countries before the hard court swing. BTW, Canada grants sports visas, so he should have zero problem with this.

Re: Yuki Bhambri
I don't think there is any visa issue here. His trainer did mention that Yuki could not travel to Montreal due to lack of flights at that time.
I think he may be waiting to see if he gets in Cincy qualies before taking a decision to go to Vancouver.

Re: Yuki Bhambri
Gael Monfils beat Nishikori in R2 at Montreal yesterday (in a tight match), so he's by no means finished yet (highlighting the quality of Yuki's victory over him last week). Shapovalov beat DelPotro -- which doesn't augur too well for our Davis Cup fixture though…We need Yuki to be at the peak of form and fitness.

Re: Yuki Bhambri
Yuki has entered the 25k Futures in Canada , where in Calgary with his new ranking of 159 is the top seed.
Balaji also makes the main draw.

Re: Yuki Bhambri
Bizarre decision. I hope he is only doing this as a back-stop -- incase he doesn't make it into the Vancouver main draw or Cincinnati qualifiers.
Clearly, though, there were no visa issues

Re: Yuki Bhambri
This might indirectly mean that Balaji will be picked for the DC team or Is he in the reserves? (Shrug). I do not remember him ever traveling to North America for any ITF events.

Re: Yuki Bhambri
PKB, this is in the week of August 28, not next week. Also this is an early entry list with withdrawal deadline after 4 days. Of course, if he qualifies for US open he will automatically miss this. If he loses in USO qualies, he might have wanted to play one of the futures in Canada to maintain match fitness instead of just practicing for couple of weeks before DC. Otherwise, it does not make much sense in him playing futures now.

Re: Yuki Bhambri
Yuki should absolutely stop playing Futures unless there is some compelling reason to do so (like being ranked outside top-300 because of an injury layoff). He shouldn't even be thinking about doing it when he is ranked near 150.

Re: Yuki Bhambri
If he wins a couple of rounds in Vancouver, he will be inside top-150, so he won't be able to play Futures. But he shouldn't even be thinking about playing them now!

Re: Yuki Bhambri
Nothing much to discuss about his decision to play futures as it is for match practice purpose for DC.
He might enter into the next canadian futures too( if he stays outside 150)...if i am not wrong there are hardly tournament in north america.....
