Yes, looks like he does not want to play lower level challengers for now which is a good strategy considering his current ranking. Save your energy for the best level tournaments which he can get in.

That was a good win to get for Yuki against an in-form player.

Yuki rises 2 slots to 92 in the live rankings.

Next up for Yuki is Ze Zhang (CHN, 265).

This was a quality win for Yuki. Nishioka is coming of a title in Gimcheon where he won all his matches in straight sets including against 2 top 100 players (Thompson and Pospisil). Yuki seemed to be on the defensive in the first 2 sets but did well to steal the second set on a TB. The third set was also quite hard fought even though Yuki was up 3-0 as he needed 7 BPs to get his 2 breaks and then saved 2 BPs on his own serve. Looks like tiredness finally got to Nishioka....

Yuki should be commended for not throwing in the towel and slogging it out knowing that if he can stretch the match out, he would have a good chance given fatigue would be a factor for his opponent.

Yuki is certainly more fitter and agile than the last time he broke into the top 100. Maybe one of the coaches can chime in with any noticeable technical improvements.

Yuki's R2 singles match isn't on the schedule for today. Instead, his opponent (Ze Zhang) has a doubles match at 4pm. It would've been better (from the standpoint of the rest of the week in singles) for Yuki's match to have been played today.

Yuki has entered in Grass Court Challenger (Surbiton) Starting June 4, so he wants to practice on grass court before Wimbledon unlike what he did before French Open. Ramkumar has also entered the challenger.

Yuki broke Ze Zhang in the first game, and was serving for the second game at Ad-In when the rain stopped play.

The match has resumed. Yuki holds to go up 2-0

Zhang holds. It is 2-1 with Yuki to serve next.

Yuki is broken at love. On the first point he makes an error by not hitting through the ball and then Zhang goes for his shots on the next 3 points and makes all of them. It is 2-2 now.

More errors from Yuki and Zhang holds to go up 3-2.

So far 'Sasi' in Yuki is showing up more frequently than the 'Mukund' in him :D

Yuki dumps 3 in a row in the net to go down another break from 30-15 up. It is Zhang serving at 4-2. Zhang making fewer errors now compared to the first 2 games when he made a few.

Zhang holds at 0 to go up 5-2. Not looking good.

Yuki finally wins a game after losing 5 on the trot to hold. Zhang to serve at 5-3.

Finally a bit more determined and purposeful body language. Breaks Zhang at love to bring it back on serve. 4-5.

Two double faults, a forehand UFE and a well played point from Zhang all contribute to another poor game and Yuki is broken to lose the first set 6-4.

Zhang growing in confidence while Yuki continues to be up and down. Zhang holds at the start of the second.

I am going to stop watching and reporting now

It is 2-2 in the second set. Still, Yuki is making a lot more unforced errors than he should and Zhang is playing well.

Yuki had a breakpoint at 30-40 but could not convert. Zhang leads 3-2 with Yuki to serve.

Yuki saves 2 bp's at 30-40 and ad-out and holds for 3-3.

Zhang holds at 15 for 4-3. He is serving strong.

Yuki broken at love with some very bad errors on the points which he was dominating. Zhang will serve for the match.

And he holds at 15 to end Yuki's misery.

Looks like that didn't go as planned... at all. Yuki lost 46 36.

I was in and out and only saw a few points here and there. Yuki was making so many unforced errors, hurrying the shots, hitting into the net and all kinds of mess. What the heck was going on, I don't know! Probably ate some some bad stuff for breakfast and he wanted to just get out of there or something.

Really bad loss, and a waste of a precious week before the French Open. He should fly straight to Geneva if there’s a chance of making the main draw there, or else go to Roland Garros and practice hard on clay. Pointless just picking up a cheque. If John Milman can play and win on clay, why can’t Yuki?!
