3rd seed Siddharth Rawat won the R2 and is in the QF at the Jakarta M25. But Rishi Reddy (at the Kuwait M15) and Siddhanth Banthia (Norman,OK,USA M15) lost their R2s in straight sets to the 3rd and 6th seeds. With Karman retiring injured in the R2 at the Toronto W60, Sid at Jakarta is the only Indian player to make a singles QF at the pro levels in this horrible week.

Update: Sid Rawat (IND,583) lost the QF, 26 26 to Renta Tokuda (JPN,821) who was ranked in the top-300 as a 20 year old 4 years ago and is on an injury comeback trail or something. So, that finishes the pro week in singles for us.

Siddarth Rawat is at the M25 in Jakarta this week as the second seed in the main draw.

Siddhant Banthia is at the M15 in Ithaca, NY, USA, playing the Q1 today as the 9th seed. He seems to be playing one more year of college tennis, as he moved from Wake Forest University as a graduate transfer to UC Berkeley (doing an MBA after his economics degree from WFU). I think the pandemic added a 5th year of eligibility.

Of note to us here, 16 year old Rohan Belday (USA) had a wildcard to the Q1 at the Ithaca M15, but went down this morning to a guy three years older to him; 15th seeded Aman Sharma, also from USA. Gautam: Was this Rohan's first pro match?

When an Indian is a seed, any Tom Dick Harry or Leung can get an upset, I guess... 2nd seed Siddharth Rawat (IND,581) lost to and 18 year old Malaysian kid Mitsuki Wei Kang Leong (#1296) in the Jakarta M25 first round, 26 67(2)...

^^ Oh, ok. So he is not just any Leung :) .... But this is all sad, really. Players are coming up from everywhere in Asia, and we are just kinda stuck where we are, or actually regressing.

20 year old Tanisha Kashyap qualified into the main draw at Monastir W15 this week. She beat a Ukranian teenager, Anna Kashyrina 61 60, and the pulled the upset of the top seed, Giuliana Bestetti (ITA,1065), 62 06 [10-3], and then beat another Italian, Elisa Andrea Camerano (ITF/1062) 61 76 to make the main draw. She plays 8th seed Marie Villet (FRA,804) in the main draw on Wednesday. Nice run by Tanisha. (Update: She retired at 67(3) 13 against Marie Villet in the R1 though)

20-year old Tanisha Kashyap again qualified into the Monastir W15 this week, upsetting a 6th seeded Taiwanese in the qualies. She has only played 4 or 5 Monastir M15s so far in the pros, but had qualified into one in November too (as above). She was our junior number 1 and Junior Fed Cup player a few years ago but had sorta disappeared. She has just not been in India since 2020, when she went to Ohio State for college tennis (but she only played one year there if I am not mistaken). Not sure what the story is, on Tanisha from Assam.

SD Prajwal Dev won the M15 Sharm-El-Sheikh ITF doubles title last week. This was his 3rd title at this level. He lost in the opening round of singles, however. He continues his stay in Egypt this week. Sravya Shivani, as well.

In Tunisia, Karan Singh lost in the final qualifying round to a fellow 19-yo player who’s ranked at least 1000 spots below him. Not sure how he’s seen as a potential for future. At best, he’d turn out to be someone like Rishab Agarwal is my hunch.

Is anybody really seeing potential in him? I know I said "pray hard that he could turn out to be good". Nobody has noted him to be one with potential, right? I said it only because he is the only guy under 22 who is in the top-1000, and one of only three guys under the age of 25. But that only shows what a nadir we have reached in tennis; not really that we should hold much hopes on Karan.

God, the cupboard is so bare that it is depressing. It may take at least 8 years before we see another top-100 player, barring some huge surprise.

Tanisha Kashyap again qualified into a Monastir W15, upsetting the 2nd and 10th seeds in qualifying this time. She has won the R1 also and now faces another qualifier who upset the 4th seed in R2 (Update: She lost in the R2 to Elena Gemovic (SRB)).

Tanisha received a wild card for the main draw of the W15 Monastir Futures this week and won the first round against another WC entrant, Selina Atay 7-6 6-4. Runs into the second seed next.

Strangely, Sravya Shivani and Jennifer Luikham are in the doubles main draw but nowhere to be seen in singles. They won their first round doubles.

At M25 Monastir, Karan Singh falters again in the qualifying rounds, losing in the last Q-round this week. Karan, however won his first round doubles with a Ghanaian partner.

SDPD upset the second seed of the draw at the M15 Sharm ElSheikh event.

R1 SD Prajwal Dev (730) 6-4 6-1 (2) Pedja Kristin (SRB, 619)
R2 SD Prajwal Dev (730) vs Yeongseok Jeong (KOR,915)

Hope he continues his good start but you never know against Koreans. SDPD is also into the next round in doubles being seeded #2 in the draw with fellow Indian, Sai Karteek Reddy Ganta.

Rishab Agarwal is also in the doubles QF but he lost in the singles QR2.

Surprise! An Indian eventually ended up following through with an early round upset win.

At M15 Sharm ElSheikh

R1 SD Prajwal Dev (730) 6-4 6-1 (2) Pedja Kristin (SRB, 619)
R2 SD Prajwal Dev (730) 6-4 3-6 6-2 Yeongseok Jeong (KOR,915)
QF SD Prajwal Dev (730) vs (5) Simone Roncalli (ITA,670)

SDPD is also in the doubles SF with Sai Karteek. Can he keep going? :goodluck:
