Here is more proof. She is currently #21 in the U-18 Portugal national rankings.

It could be that Portugese Tennis association allows foreign nationals to play their domestic tournaments. You can see the club names against the players names in their ranking table unlike state or region name as in our case. So, Nandini could have played some of their domestic tournaments while training there and got the ranking. Just a guess though.

Don't know about Portugal but you can get a USTA ranking by playing USTA tournaments without being a citizen of the US. I suspect she has a Portuguese ranking because she has played their domestic circuit. Her nationality still shows as India in the link sent by Bujilover, so not sure where he is getting the dual nationality speculation.

You are right prof. India does not allow dual citizenship.

Re: [Tennis] Misc. Results for Indians abroad...
It is still rather curious. There must be quite a few players who have such national rankings in other countries where they train, like Nandini, but I have never really noticed another country's ranking being shown in the acceptance lists like in this case. But then again, it may still be pretty rare for a player to have a higher national ranking in another country than the home country, I suppose... It is certainly way too soon for her to get a Portuguese citizenship, after less than a year there.

Re: [Tennis] Misc. Results for Indians abroad...
The one slightly obscure possibility is that she is from Goa (in which case she can get Portuguese citizenship quite quickly). If she, or any parent or grandparent of hers was born in Goa, she can apply for a Portuguese passport. (That is how the father of the current Prime Minister of Portugal, Antonio da Costa, became Portuguese, having spent the first 18 years of his life in Goa -- although he was born in Madagascar, another Portuguese colony, to a fully Goan father).

Pakistan Men's ITF $15K Series - Dec 4/11/18 2017
I know we have a separate thread for the South East Asia Futures but I wanted to create one for this as it's interesting to know Pakistan is approved for hosting ITF tournaments.
There are 3 $15K ITFs lined up from the week of Dec 4 and we have few Indian presence.
For the first week at Islamabad.
1 Ivan NEDELKO (RUS) 299 1
2 Thomas BRECHEMIER (FRA) 439 1
3 David PEREZ SANZ (ESP) 448 1
4 Tomislav JOTOVSKI (MKD) 582 1
5 Lukas OLLERT (GER) 699 4
6 Pere RIBA (ESP) 762 1
7 Shalva DZHANASHIA (RUS) 778 1
8 Julian ONKEN (GER) 803 1
9 Kristian LOZAN (RUS) 839 1
10 Laurent ROCHETTE (FRA) 924 1
11 Peter GOLDSTEINER (AUT) 939 2
12 Vadim ALEKSEENKO (UKR) 1053 1
13 Alexander LEBEDYN (UKR) 1096 1
14 Kelsey STEVENSON (CAN) 1114 1
15 Dmitry SURCHENKO (RUS) 1180= 3
16 Kunal ANAND (IND) 1302 1
17 Luka PAVLOVIC (FRA) 1377= 2
Apart from Kunal, a bunch of our players is on the Q list - Paramveer Singh Bajwa, Jatin Dahiya, Kunal Vazirani to name a few. I am assuming some of the higher ranked Indian players might sign up for the rest of the 2 weeks.
Mods - please merge this with SE Asia thread if we do not get more MD players from week 2.

Pakistan is not in South East Asia. So, if not too many Indian players sign up for main draw from week 2, we can simply merge this in " Misc. results for Indians abroad " thread.
But, good to see them getting to host some international sporting events finally.

Re: [Tennis] Misc. Results for Indians abroad...
I had the chance to interview Nandini this weekend and she was kind enough to give me time for the same. The questions I had asked are here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gZ3 ... 7pp7uy7lft. Will write down the notes and post on blog probably in mid-late Dec (Vatsal has too many marquee players lined up )
Wanted to share brief summary for us here on the forum
- Reason for her short ITF Jr career as well as long absense of 1.5 yr to 2 yrs from 2015 to 2016 Sep is an arm injury.
- Felner academy played a huge role in her career and she treats them like a second family
- Vis-a-vis Portugese ranking: She had played in the national tournaments there while she was there (with stay permit card). Hence the ranking.
- She is hoping to get into rankings using the next few Indian events but due to her non-existent AITA/ITF ranking, she probably needs WC support and she has written into most of the events for a WC and she is hoping atleast few of them respond positively.

Re: [Tennis] Misc. Results for Indians abroad...
Good work! Is Nandini aware that we had noticed how well she has been playing, even through a bit of bad luck and all that, and been discussing her here? I am sure she didn't expect anybody to really notice or care...

Re: [Tennis] Misc. Results for Indians abroad...
Unfortunately, Nandini does not get to play this week either in main draw or qualies as a wild card. As Jay said, it doesn't look anyone in the Indian tennis circles has noticed her results. I am not sure if anyone in the AITA or regional tennis associations keeps tracks of these results of at lower level tournaments like we do here.

Re: [Tennis] Misc. Results for Indians abroad...
Nandini appeared to be a very focused girl who avoids distractions. For example, she mentioned she avoids checking mobile for the distractions she has there and instead is focusing on learning two new languages. So she wasn't aware of our forum. She said she came to know about the fb page recently [I think driven by Felner Academy sharing posts on their page and her academy folks commented/tagged her].
Regd WC, she said she withdrew from Solapur too as there is no way she would get in. She has applied to them too for a WC too and is awaiting an update from them.
