Niki's name reminded me of Vijay Amritraj's character in the US TV series, the "38th precinct" in 1985 -- Shivram Bhai Poochavallah (if I remember correctly)

If I am correct the series was called "Last Precinct" and apart from that long name was called "Alphabet"

You're right. It was the "Last Precinct" and not the "38th precinct". Yes, I think he had the nickname "Alphabet," as the character's actual name was too long and had all kinds of alphabets in it :) .... I clearly remember the name though, from when I watched it back then.

At ITF $15,000 Sajur

[R1] (Q) Mihika YADAV (IND) d. (8) Oleksandra PISKUN (UKR) 6-4, 6-0

She lost in qualifying last week but managed to qualify and earn this upset win this week.

Although the field is extremely weak at these Israeli events.

To her true potential showed in the Junior circuit, defeating someone ranked 879 is not a big achievement. But considering that Mihika is starting to win these matches after her break is a positive sign.

Up next:

At $15,000 Sajur, Israel (Hard, Outdoor)

[R2] (Q) Mihika YADAV (IND, NR) vs Julia VULPIO (FRA, 1141) :goodluck:

That is heartening news indeed from 18 year old Mihika, who qualified into this tournament and then thrashed the 8th seed.

I also look forward to 16 year old Mahak Jain returning to the circuit soon, after a 5-month absence (despite which, she is still ranked 840).

Also Mihika herself had been ranked 870 last year. So, if he is back to playing at that level this may not be that big a win for her. But, good because this comes after some time. Hope she goes deep this week. She needs to get her ranking back.

In the meantime,in Vietnam, Nitin lost in the second round to complete a bad week for us there.

[R1] Kannan, Annika (IND, NR) l Stamat, Vitalia (MDA, 819) 2-6 0-6

KU got upset in second round in Vietnam but Abhinav got an upset win.

At $15K Vietnam F3 Futures,Thua Thien Hue

[R2] Abhinav Sanjeev SHANMUGAM (IND,927) d. (6) Ryota TANUMA (JPN,725) 64 64
[R2] (Q) Paramveer Singh BAJWA (IND,1916) l. (4) Alexios HALEBIAN (USA,669) 76(3) 46 26
[R2] (Q) Niki KALIYANDA POONACHA (IND,1525) l. (7) Pruchya ISARO (THA,743) 67(3) 46
[R2] (2) Karunuday SINGH (IND,648) l. (WC) Linh Giang TRINH (VIE,1525) 60 36 67(6)

Next,

[QF] Abhinav Sanjeev SHANMUGAM (IND,927) vs. Ji Sung NAM (KOR,1237)

This guy Nam seems to be coming off an injury or something. He has been ranked in top 350 before and has beaten RamK in 2015 and reached final last week. So, he will be tough for Abhinav.

Karunuday's singles career is going nowhere. He showed some promise in the first year after leaving college just before graduating, but he should now find himself a regular doubles partner and make the transition to doubles.
