Even closer than Manisha (314) and Ankita (332) were Rushmi Chakravarthi (310) and Poojashree Venketesh (306)- see the list which I had compiled last year on the previous page of this thread.PKBasu wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2019 4:08 pm Time for us to put a similar listing together for the women who have been ranked in the WTA top-300 (albeit still a rather short list):
Sania Mirza - 27
* Shikha Uberoi - 122
* Sunitha Rao -144
Nirupama Vaidyanathan - 147
Ankita Raina - 164
Kamran Kaur Thandi - 196
Pranjala Yadlapalli - 280
Isha Lakhani - 291
Manisha Malhotra and Ankita Bhambri narrowly failed to make it to the top-300. Shikha and Sunitha were not really products of the Indian system (and hence warrant their asterisks), but Shikha represented India throughout, and Sunitha reached her career-high when she was representing India.

True, but it's also heartening that of the 8 Indians on that list (6 Indian citizens while they were playing), 3 are currently active in the pro circuit, all with prospects of going higher.jayakris wrote: ↑Wed Apr 10, 2019 1:52 pmIt's sad how short this list is, though. We should be doing better than this. I certainly expected a couple more to be in the list by now, considering that it is about 15 years since the Sania phenomenon happened. Sadly, our kids were more bothered about who she was dating and marrying than what she was doing in tennis.

Sumit Nagal becomes the 19th Indian to make it to the top-200 in the ATP singles rankings. He is 194 in the live rankings now, but I won’t update the table until he’s done at the ATP500 in Hamburg, where he plays former world #7 Richard Gasquet in R1 of the main draw -- after a couple of excellent victories over top-150 ranked players in the two rounds of qualifying.

The reason I have moved Ramanathan Krishnan to the top is because the ATP page too mentions that he was in the top-10 of Lance Tingay's world rankings (admittedly only among the non-professionals) for 4 consecutive years. His highest ranking in that list was #6 in 1961. He was the fourth seed at Wimbledon in 1962 as a result. Lance Tingay's rankings were the closest thing to an official world ranking at the time. Jaideep Mukherjea similarly would probably be in the top-20 in 1962 (when he made the last-16 at both the US and Australian championships) and 1966 (when he did it again at the French championship and Wimbledon). But Tingay didn't put him in his top-10 or top-15, so the best we can do for him is use his ATP rankings -- admittedly when he was past his prime.

Slight change in the top of the pecking order, after ATP properly counted Sashi Menon's 1975 performances, and showed his career-high as being 71 (not 87 as we previously thought):

Somdev Devvarman - 62

Re: Highest rankings of all the former Indian players please????
ATP site has updated Sashi Menon's highest ranking to 71 and Vijay's to 18. So those need to be corrected. Also another interesting thing I found is that Krishnan's top ranking of 6 is taken from Lance Tingay's annually published rankings. This was in 1961. This was.among amateurs. The same year he had published a common ranking of amateurs and professionals where Krishnan was ranked 17th.
