Again, PKBasu thanks for a wonderful review of Ramesh and his tennis. True, Vijay won more titles and garnered the attention, and should be regarded as the more accomplished player, but as I said with "bias and no basis", Ramesh has my admiration, for not being tall, not being fast, not having a serve, but still being successful on the tour and staying there, till he had given it his all. A true professional. Vijay had the height, the talent at the net and a fluid, telling serve and was a treat to watch. Enjoyed both of their tennis over 15 years. No singles player has come close, since then.

PKB : Fantastic posts.
Presently Ramesh is settled in Chennai & plays , probably a couple of days in a week. I've heard he still has the infinite variations on his sliced b/h. After reading your posts I'm motivated to pull some strings to watch the "silken" touches live:-)

Frankly, it does not look like Somdev can do the same now.

Slightly premature, but updating the list to reflect the likely move of Yuki to #8 on the all-time list. Quite sobering that only 7 Indians have been ranked in the top-100 in the world over the last 42 years (of Open-era computer rankings):

Vijay Amritraj - 16
Ramesh Krishnan - 23
Somdev Devvarman - 62
Leander Paes- 73
Anand Amritraj - 74
Sashi Menon - 87
Jasjit Singh - 89
Yuki Bhambri - 104
Premjit Lall - 105
Jaidip Mukherjea - 120
Zeeshan Ali - 126
Ramanathan Krishnan -136
Prakash Amritraj - 154
Akshai Misra - 158
Srinivas Vasudevan – 166
Saketh Myneni - 196
Bhanu Nunna - 199
Ashok Amritraj - 201
Joykumar Royappa - 207
Ramkumar Ramanathan - 211
Rohan Bopanna - 213
Mahesh Bhupathi - 217
Chiradeep Mukherjea - 221 (amateur; never turned pro, but made R2 at Wimbledon twice)
Harsh Mankad – 222
Vishnu Vardhan -262
Sanam Singh - 264
Karan Rastogi – 284
Jeevan Neduncheziyan - 293

Currently active singles players are bold, the two new rankings (Yuki, Sanam) are based on the live rankings (not yet updated on the ATP site).
