World Junior Tennis u14 Boys (Asia-Oceania Regionals)

Post by jayakris »

It is starting Monday at Melbourne, Australia. Actually, they must be already underway. Here are the Groupings. Indian Boys did get seeded as 3rd. Not bad.

Group 1
(1) Australia
(5) Japan
Hong Kong
New Zealand

Group 2
(3) India
(4) Korea
Philippines
Malaysia

Group 3
(2) Thailand
(6) Chinese Taipei
Sri Lanka
Indonesia

Knockout draw:

Winner Group 1 vs 3rd Best Team Grp 2/3
Runner-up Group 2 vs Runner-up Group 3
Winner Group 2 vs Runner-up Group 1
Winner Group 3 vs 3rd Best Team Grp 1/2

Round Robin Schedule for India

19th vs Malaysia
20th vs Philippines
21st vs (4) Korea

The Indian team is Agnel Gladwyn, Arnav Jain and Mesher Vaswani. Not as high-profile a group as the Rupesh/Sumit team last year that topped Asia in grand style and finished 7th in the world finals-16. But this is a good group of kids, and let's wish them best!

The boys couldn't make it three in a row, but a good effort nevertheless from the youngsters.

(4) Korea d. (3) India 2-1

#1 Chung Eui Kim d. Agnel Gladwin 64 46 62

Due to the R1 and R2 victories, team India has made it to the quarterfinals despite losing to Korea. The matchup will be:

The winner advances to the semifinals!
