Including this match Suresh has now defeated players ranked 146, 147, 126, 155, and 121 among others since the Lexington challenger in late Jul.

Really good win by Suresh! He is easily our best player on hard courts (and faster courts).

One more win will take him to his career high and a title here will move him to India #2. :goodluck:

DKS's career best win by ranking of his opponent. He seems to raise his game against better opponents.

Update - Suresh breaks one more time to go up 5-2. He will now serve for the match.

Final update - Suresh got broken when serving for the match (Draxl went for his shots with nothing to lose and it came off) but Suresh broke back immediately to score an impressive win.

At Charlottesville Challenger 75, USA (Hard)

[R1] (Q) Dhakshineswar Suresh (IND,568) defeated (2) Liam Draxel (CAN,121) 6-3 6-3
Massive win indeed for DKS over the second seed. Can he go all the way to the title this week? Why not!

Samir Banerjee was the top seed in the qualifiers but lost in FQR.

Anirudh Chandrasekar and Sid Banthia are seeded second and third respectively in doubles (partnering Stadler of the US and Soto of Chile respectively).

Not surprised by this win, knowing Suresh's calibre and before the match saw his opponent's record for this year, a player who had won majority of his matches against players ranked below him.

But against the wily vetran Krueger ,would be wary and unwilling to speculate.

Even though Suresh was playing a much lower ranked player than the 2nd seeded opponent he took out , sadly my anxiety and apprehension were confirmed as he went down in 3 hard fought sets against the canny American who was 5-2 against the Indians and today increased that tally to 6-2.

The first set TB which he lost proved to be very crucial, 52 in TB and was serving for the set and all he do was hold with his strong serve , but strangely from 52 up lost 5 points in a row to loose the S1 TB 57

Yes, I saw the first set tie break and DKS was cruising at 5-1 and all of a sudden lost 6 straight points (and mostly due to own errors) to lose the tie break and the set.

That must be demoralising. Good that he took the second set bot lost the third. One of the longest matches DK would have played in his career of around 3 hours.
