Re: US Open 2024
Ohhh, no! Bad karma, i guess - going back to the FO dbls withdrawal and standing up his partner due to scheduling issues and the fact that Sumit had to be elsewhere to qualify for Oly...

Re: US Open 2024
Last year's finalists facing the toughest R1 match among our pairs, as I had expected:
2-Rohan Bopanna/Matthew Ebden (IND/AUS) vs. Sander Arends/Robin Haase (NED/NED) 63 44
From 2-4 in the second set, our pair break Arends at 15 to make it 3-4.
Then RB holds at love to make it 4-4.
2-Rohan Bopanna/Matthew Ebden (IND/AUS) vs. Sander Arends/Robin Haase (NED/NED) 63 44
From 2-4 in the second set, our pair break Arends at 15 to make it 3-4.
Then RB holds at love to make it 4-4.

Re: US Open 2024
Finally, Bops crosses the first round hurdle after 4 R1 early exists coming to USO. And they play a team of singles players (F Coria/ RCB) in R2. Looking winnable.

Re: US Open 2024
I know what happened. Sumit and partner withdrew and they replaced them with another team which then lost. Wikipedia did not catch that update and said that Sumit and partner lost.Sanjay wrote: Thu Aug 29, 2024 8:09 pmI see that they lost...prashanthm wrote: Thu Aug 29, 2024 5:30 pm Looks like Sumit/Nishioka withdrew... second GS doubles withdrawal in a row for Sumit...![]()

Google just said they withdrew as that match never happened.

Re: US Open 2024
Alcaraz lost to some no name guy.
Why? Oh Why can't it be one of our guys beating a Top 3 player just by luck or fluke? We used to be able to do it in the past decades.
Vijay beating No1s Connors in 1975 and Mac in 1984. Ramesh beating Wilander in 1989.

^^^ No name guy? LOL. This is the same Botic who stunned the tennis world reaching QFs during the Covid USO. Perhaps, you don’t follow the ATP circuit besides Sumit Nagal and Manas Dhamne?

Re: US Open 2024
Rethin’s FQR match against American Keaton Hance has started. 12.37 UTR v 12.16. Hope the little rating advantage for Rethin actually works out

Re: US Open 2024
Well, I don't follow Dhamne a whole lot these days either. Just when Jay posts about him. So it's mainly Sumit, but I try to watch all Sumit matches.Dinesh wrote: Fri Aug 30, 2024 4:44 am ^^^ No name guy? LOL. When I said "no name" I meant it relatively. He is no name compared to Alc whom he beat. Zero ATP titles and highest rank of 22. Yes, he is a big name compared to our guys, but he is an also-ran in the larger ATP world as of today? Who knows what he will do tomorrow?

Ronit Karki too lost in straight sets in Q2.
Now, we have 4 doubles matches lined up later today.
Bops-Ebden against Carballes Baena- Coria, Yuki- Olivetti against 15th seeds Krajicek-Roger and Balaji-Andreozzi against 6th seeds Skupski-Venus in mens doubles and than Bops mixed doubles first round.

Re: US Open 2024
American kids are tough. I wonder where Rethin is based out of (in terms of training, etc.,).
Krajicek/Roger is a new pairing, so maybe Yuki/Olivetti stands a mere chance for an upset. Not expecting Balaji to produce another miracle given that the pair struggled to beat their R1 opponents.
