Re: Australian Open, Melbourne, GS 2000, Jan 16-29, 2023
Hello all, I am posting in this forum after like 3 years. It is sad that this forum isn't as active as it used to be before as this is the first place I check for viewpoints whenever I follow any tennis match!
It was such an incredible Wimby Semifinal for Sania in the MxD last July. Hoping she will sign off on a high note this year at AO. Does she have a chance of making a final>

Bala/Jeevan after a fairy tale entry script a 2 sets to 1 victory
This surely ranks as one the best Indian Tennis moment in recent times after a avalanche of depressing results in the past months or even a year.
Well played Bala/Jeevan

Superb win by Bala and Jeevan.
[R1] N. Shriram Balaji (IND) / Jeevan Neduncheziyan (IND) d. (5) Ivan Dodig (CRO) / Austin Krajiceck (USA) 76(6) 26 64
To think that Dodig and Krajicek are defending French open champions and Jeevan and Bala were the last alternates who got in and played the last remaining first round match. What a a story.

Wowza! So happy. That’s why I say Indians should pair and not find foreign partners. It helps in many ways. Now, please follow up with at least one more win.

What a wonderful display of resilience by Bala/G1 to script their best career win on GS debut...
Jeevan's serve was a little susceptible at times, but their racquet skills were amazing to watch with some great soft volleys and amazing lobs on display...
Bala is now up to his career high at #91 and Jeevan is #92
They are already the best 'ALT pair' of the year in the 3rd week of the season.....
They'll be up against Martin/Chardy in the next round and there's no reason why they can't win that match too....

Yes, good first grand slam win for Manas. Hope many more will come in his career.
Yes, they signed in as alternates in Pune ATP and made the final. Waited for a long time at AO, just about got in as alternates at AO and upset the 5th seeds. Kudos for them to be patient to be hanging around these 2 places in hope of being alternates and not going to other places. It has paid off in a big way.prashanthm wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 5:28 am

Very solid win by Manas. While he was the higher ranked player, it still shows good mental focus to deliver on a bigger stage while he is one of the youngest players in the field!prashanthm wrote: ↑Sat Jan 21, 2023 5:38 am Manas wins his R1 match in straight sets...

Aryan’s loss is a tough one. Fonseca is coached by Andre Sa (former 50ish ranked ATP pro from Brazil) who also travels with him. Makes a huge difference when you have top pros coaching and traveling with junior players.

Bala/G1 are first up tomorrow (Sunday), on Kia Arena court. They must have caught some attention to be scheduled to play up there or it must have been pre-scheduled before the 5th seeds lost. Either way, good to get some attention. In the R1 match, the crowd supported the 5th seeded pair and our guys were only getting muted applause at best, but as the match wore on there was huge support for our guys and it was heartening to see. Hopefully there will be more supporters for the R2 match...
Jeremy Chardy is possibly coming back from an injury lay-off and is using his protected ranking to play here...
[R2] (ALT) N. Sriram Balaji (IND,101)/ Jeevan Neduncheziyan (IND,100) v. Jeremy Chardy (FRA,815)/ Fabrice Martin (FRA,58) - First match - Kia Arena - 7 PM EST
All of our junior level matches today are being played on Ct. 17
[R1] Yuvan Nandal (IND,49) v. Alexander Frusina (USA,34) - First match - Ct 17 - 7 PM EST
[R1] Shruti Ahlawat (IND,84) v. Wakana Sonobe (JPN,64) - Second match - Ct 17 - ~9 PM EST
[R1] Atakan Karahan (TUR,52)/ Rei Sakamoto (JPN,16) v. Yuvan Nandal (IND,49)/ Goran Zgola (POL,87) - 4th match - Ct 17 - ~1 AM EST
We have another All-Indian pair in Boy's doubles made up of Manas and Aryan and they'll be up against the 5th seeded pair too, but they are not scheduled to play today...

What a fantastic story for Bala/G1 to have hung around that long to eventually get in when the singles players were b playing their 3d round matches. Awesome that they took full advantage to pull off the upset. No reason for them not to to advance further over the French oldies.

Yuvan won
I was only tracking scores online and he was 0-5 down in the 3rd set before making it back to 6-5, only for his opponent to concede after that break. I was thinking of Jay all the while thinking Yuvan must have heard his advice.
