Nice to see the young ones traveling together. Good matches played by them. Was hoping for Sahaja to win that one ... But a very good upset by Vaidehi! She and Srivalli are in the doubles draw too. Sahaja playing with Soha Sadiq too. Soha was in the qualies as the 6th seed but lost in Q2 against the 12th seed Kazakh player in an STB.

Oh damn... Just when I thought Rutuja was starting to make a push...
[R1] (4) Rutuja Bhosale (IND,431) l. (WC) Dana Baidaulet (KAZ,NR), 16 61 24 Ret.
The story of our players. If they push themselves, they get injured.

[R2] Vaidehi Chaudhari (IND,593) l. Dana Shakirova (USA,1051), 61 57 46
Vaidehi let go of quite a winnable match, it seems. Somewhat uncharacteristic of her. She got broken at 61 22 and after that it was a struggle. They traded breaks but finally Vaidehi was broken in the 11th game and Dana held serve. In the third set, VC got broken early and Dana kept the lead. Vaidehi saved a match point on her own serve in the 9th game, but could only get to 30-30 in the next game and couldn't break. But this one she should have found a way to win
Vaidehi and Srivalli are in the doubles QFs against Sahaja and Sadiq later today.

Yes, Vaidehi should have won this match. Both Vaidehi and Sahaja look promising but need to go deep in these 25K tournament to take the next step.
Vaidehi and Shrivalli are thru to doubles SF after easy win over Saheja and Sadiq.

Where is this gang going next week? Did they all make a trip to Almaty for just one event and that is that? (I don't think I saw their names in any entry lists for next week)

Unfortunately, I don’t think these players have the funds to travel week-in week-out, I had wished someone like Sahaja would try a bunch of European challenger events (W25 and above).
Rutuja (and Erika Sema) are currently #2 in the alternates list at the Bari (Romania) WTA125 event. Prarthana has also secured a main draw spot there with Brazilian Ingrid Gamarra Martins. Looks like no tournaments for the rest of the Indian contingent, including Ankita until the Chennai open.

^^^ But at least they are finding funds for some level of travel these days, unlike 15+ years ago when nobody traveled at all. Tickets were too expensive by Indian standards and almost ZERO sponsorship was there. I mean, good players like Nirupama Sanjeev and Harsh Mankad went years with almost no sponsorship from anywhere. Players at their level (top-250) do get some decent sponsorship these days and some of the younger players are also getting some funds. Definitely nowhere near enough, but at least some. Wish AITA would do something for raising funds for players and help them. Almost nothing from them, still.
Meanwhile, Vaidehi and Srivalli Rashmika came close to a doubles upset at Almaty but fell in the SF to the 2nd seeds Kulambayeva and Yashina, 46 63 (7-10)
