Ankita is all at sea today against Maria though... 06 15 and serving. And she drops serve again... 06 16. Barely avoided a double bagel.

Watched the second set of this match and Maria just kept slicing everything on forehand and backhand. First time saw a player playing like this .And Ankita just did not know what to do. Just made so many unforced errors. Ankita's level seems to have dropped off quite a bit in last year or so. She is only playing at the level of her current ranking of 300+ it seems. Looks like age catching up with her.

I think age sometimes catches up and makes you very mistake prone. When I saw Ankita's match streams at the UK events, it seemed like she was still playing some of her shots like before and was good in some rallies and all that... but she was just error-prone, like hitting the net, missing the lines or hitting some shots too short etc. She has lost accuracy in her game and that is keeping her at a level below top-300 now.

Irrespective of the results in today's match, Karman will be new India #1 in next Monday's WTA rankings as she has sneaked ahead of Ankita. But, really wish she can go further in this tournament. Bouchard has played only 4 singles matches since her return from long break, had a couple of decent wins. Still, if Karman serves well and limits the errors she will have a chance.
