Back-to-back matches are tough, given his lack of singles conditioning and match-practice. Hopefully, the next off-season will give him a chance to reduce the pain points on the body in order to lengthen his singles career. It was a good start, with a break of serve in the first game, but once he was broken in the fourth game of the first set, it was rapidly downhill, with a stream of unforced errors that showed his rustiness and fatigue.
Just saw a few games in the middle of the first set and it didn't look like Yuki had much chance to win. The other guy was very quick and was able to match Yuki from the back court. Generally, for Yuki to win, he has to dominate from the back court as otherwise he even struggles to hold his serve which is what happened in this match.

[R1] Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND) / Nikola Cacik (CRO) l. (15) Simon Bollelli (ITA) / Fabio Fognini (ITA) 46 46.

That is it for RamK. He needs to find a steadier partner in doubles for ATP tour but difficult to find it when he is still juggling between singles and doubles.

Bopanna-Middelkoop also lost 67(2) 26 in R1 of the men's doubles. A pretty depressing USO so far for us. The only one who remains alive is RB in MxD, where he is seeded sixth with a Chinese partner.

So far we have won 1 match and that was Yuki’s upset win in Q1. If Bops loses mixed doubles in the first round, this may be the worst grand slams for Indians in a long time in terms of number of wins. Of course with Sania pulling out, there was no representation on the women’s side and will once again have zero participation from juniors.

And Bops lost in first round of mixed doubles too. Probably our worst slam in last decade or so. :-(

Nishesh lost in the singles R2, a disappointing result for the world junior #8 (and 4th seed). But he is in the junior doubles final.

[F] Nishesh Basavareddy/Ozan Baris (USA/USA) d. Dietrich/Angelo 61 61

And that followed Nishesh's mentor, Rajeev Ram, retaining the men's doubles title with his partner Joe Salisbury. (I've used a lighter green colour to indicate NRIs rather than players representing India; can we make this standard :) ? ). Rajeev consequently returns to his career-high ranking of 2, and Joe to 1 despite his recent back injury.

^^^ Haha. I suspect there will be some murmurs in protest here, about celebrating Indian origin players. Not green though, even light. Maybe we can use Orange or Pink or something for something really significant done by such a player :)
