Wimbledon 2022
There will be no Russian or Belarusian players at Wimbledon this year, so the ATP and WTA have stripped the tournament of any ranking points. Other tournaments in the UK will have points, as players have the option of playing other tournaments during those weeks, but Wimbledon is basically denying professional players their right to livelihood in those two weeks, and so will lose any points. But a Slam is still a Slam, and Wimbledon is Wimbledon. There will be no empty seats any day on Centre Court -- as there were every day at the French Open.
Sania Mirza will be playing her farewell Wimbledon, in women's doubles and Mixed Doubles. Rohan Bopanna (probably with Middelkoop in Men's Doubles) may well be at his farewell Wimbledon too. Ramkumar should get into the Men's doubles, as long as he finds a high-enough-ranked partner (around 80 or better).
Yuki Bhambri is 18th on the Alternates list for Men's Singles, and Ramkumar is 67th on that list. They will both need to play qualifiers. It's a pity that no other Indian woman or man will be playing even the qualifiers in singles this year. There should be several Indians attempting to qualify into the doubles draw.

Re: Wimbledon 2022
Doubles entry list is out. Sania and Lucie Hradecka are the 4th direct team accepted into the main draw list, whereas on the men’s side, Ramkumar has found a new partner to play with - in Tomislav Brkic (#57). Brkic reached R16 at Wimbledon couple of years ago, so this could be an exciting partnership for Ramkumar. Surprisingly, I couldn’t find Bopanna’s name in the list. Divij Sharan is 19 spots out of the main draw list.

Rohan is going to skip Wimbledon as it has no ATP points.

Re: Wimbledon 2022
Absolutely the dumbest decision from someone who has never won a doubles grand slam! Did he ever think about the prestige and notoriety that comes from winning this tournament? He’s 42 years old, so who cares if they are no points to play for! He likely has 1 maybe 2 productive years left in his career and is now skipping Wimbledon. Isn’t there money still in the offering? Why would you turn down good money just because there are no points unless it’s a principled stand you want to take? He could use money more than points right now, I assume.

Re: Wimbledon 2022
Qualies start today. Both our players have tough openers.
Yuki plays top seed in qualies, Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles. Miralles reached R16 at French open, notching up 2 top 30 wins. So, it will be a miracle for Yuki playing his first match on grass in a while to beat him.
Ramkumar plays 19th seed, 128th ranked Vit Kopriva of Czech Republic. Kopriva is playing his first match on grass this year. So, this is actually a winnable match but with current form of RamK, we cannot say anything.

Re: Wimbledon 2022
Probably his fine dining partner decided against it with no ATP points , and as he is averse to having Dosai & Utthappa;s , decided to skip it all together.sameerph wrote: ↑Sat Jun 18, 2022 5:29 amRohan is going to skip Wimbledon as it has no ATP points.

Re: Wimbledon 2022
Yuki started well and was 5-3 up in first set and had a couple of set points too but after that got blow away.
[Q1] Yuki Bhambri (IND,631) l. (1) Barnaba Zapata Miralles (ESP,89) 57 16
Zapata Miralles has been in great form of late reaching 4th round of French open. So, not a surprising result considering Yuki went in without any match practice at all.
RamK match has just about started.

Re: Wimbledon 2022
Exactly. I can imagine a Leander saying this because he has bagfuls. Bops has not won anything yet. This may be his last chance.vparam wrote: ↑Sat Jun 18, 2022 2:21 pmAbsolutely the dumbest decision from someone who has never won a doubles grand slam! Re: Wimbledon 2022
And RamK loses too to bring to quick end our qualifying campaign.
[Q1] Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,172) l. (19) Vit Korpriva (CZE,128) 57 46
RamK had several chances to close out the first set, but could not finish it out after being 5-3 up, then was 3-1 up in second set and still lost. His confidence is at a low here and serve is not working much as a strength at all. ( 6 aces and 7 double faults here).

Re: Wimbledon 2022
So Ram creates a hat-trick of losses against players who were playing their first match on Grass after playing 7 , 9 & 11 tournaments on Clay.
Earlier this year created a world record of most consequtive R1 losses by a player in the past decade on the ATP tour and today created another of a 25th failed attempt at a Grand Slam qualifiers, Sigh... 25 attempts ...
Infact his opponent on Grass was no big deamon , and Ram of old could have easily turned on the screws after breaking his opponent in S1, but his game now lacks focus and application, and the manner he got broken in 7th game of S2 by dumping 3 consequtive points in the net says it all.

Re: Wimbledon 2022
I am pretty sure Ram also set a record for most Challenger MD entries without a win.
