Great score on clay courts. Given her weak seve and great forehand, why doesn't she play more on clay courts?

Yes, good win for Ankita here. She needs some deep runs to get back into grand slam qualifying range.

Ankita and Rutuja also started with a win in doubles.

Rutuja and Pranjala play their first round matches tomorrow.

Ankita`s forehand is good for faster surfaces. She doesnt hit a heavy topspin forehand which is what makes a huge difference on clay.

For next week, it seems Ankita did not enter main draw in first place. So, she has to go thru qualies. Rutuja is not playing that week.

At At ITF W60 Canberra 2 (Clay)

[Q1] Ankita Raina (IND,323) d. (4) Olivia Tjandramulia (AUS,506) 75 63

[Q1] (11) Sowjanya Bavisetti (IND,649) d. Isabella Bozocevic (AUS,1400) 63 63

Next,

[Q2] Ankita Raina (IND,323) vs.(12) Shiho Akita (JPN,671)

[Q2] (11) Sowjanya Bavisetti (IND,649) vs. (8) Tina Nadine Smith (AUS,575)

[Q2] Ankita Raina (IND,323) d. 12-Shiho Akita (JPN,671; CH 221) 67(7) 63 11-9
[Q2] 11-Sowjanya Bavisetti (IND,649) d. 8-Tina Nadine Smith (AUS,575) 75 67(8) 10-8

Good win for Sowjanya over a promising 19 year old. Surprising struggle for Ankita against a low-ranked opponent.

Not sure why Ankita wasn't seeded in the qualifiers, even if she entered late. Once the entries are accepted, they make the seedings based on ranking (at least in the main draws); is there a different procedure for qualifiers??

Also,

[R1] Pranjala Yadalaplli (IND,631) vs. (8) Yuki Naito (JPN,224)

Pranjala having the toughest match-up in first round. Ankita is also having a tough match-up. Ankita is top seed in doubles along with Arinia Rodionova.
