Good win by Shruti and she sets up an interesting QF against top seed Zeel. 2 foreign players- second and third seeds still remain in the fray.

Shruti seems to be a good prospect -- winning two rounds on her debut at the senior level is nice. Akanshaa is only 18 years old and pulled off a win against seasoned Mihika. It is always good to see younger players make a mark.

Edit: As I was writing this, Vaidehi is shellacking Akanshaa winning the first set 6-0 and is up a break at 1-0 in the second set!

Edit2: Vaidehi wins 6-0 6-2. Zeel has beaten Shruti 6-2 6-1. In the other two matches where our gals are playing two seeded foreign players, the matches are close. Sandeepti has won the first set 7-5 against (3) Punnin Kovapitukted while Humera lost the first set 5-7 to (2) Anna Urike.

Sandeepti lost 67(3) in the third set tie break. She served for the match at 6-5 but got broken. She is also only 18 and playing only her first pro tour event. Came thru qualifying and just failed to put it across third seed from Thailand. So, good performance by her.

Humera lost 57 36 against the Russian second seed.

So, it is upto Zeel and Vaidelhi now to stop 2 foreign players in the SF.

Yes. Apologies for not realising that Sandeepti is also 18 years old when I wrote the initial post. Great show from her and Humera. They made the higher ranked players earn the win. Vaidehi needs to move up from a ranking in the 800s to below 500. Hope that this week is a step towards that.

Long 3 hours 41 mins match. Sad that on home courts Zeel could not beat a lower ranked player. This week was on clay courts. Next week is on hard courts at Gurugram. Hopefully, Indians will do better there.

So, last week's winner and second seeded Russian retires in her first round match against Soha Sadiq. Long final last week against Zeel seems to have taken it's toll. Only 1 foreign player left now in third seeded Thai.
