Re: Pre-US Open ATP/WTA tournaments
Bopanna has only won matches this year when paired with Shapovalov, Sharan and Sania. (all the S's...).

Kyrgios is a wildcard. When he feels like it, he can beat even Djokovic. He has a 2-0 record against Djokovic when he was ranked No 2. He sometimes has motivation issues

And Tiafoe is no chump either. When singles stars join, their doubles ranking is anomalous.

Re: Pre-US Open ATP/WTA tournaments
Looks like Sania's doubles match is moved to tomorrow, as Jabeur's singles match is just starting at 8:30 pm. Bops' doubles is still on the schedule for sometime around 10:30 pm.

So, that is that. Nothing good happening with Bops these days. I don't know how long he will keep this going now....

Re: Pre-US Open ATP/WTA tournaments
The prep money is not really that much. It pays for a physio or a trainer here and there. The drama is more to draw attention to themselves, which may result in endorsements, etc. that actually gets them a lot more money.

Unfortunately both our players lost. Rohan and Dodig came very close. Usually the losing players just walk off after the match and the winning players sign autographs, but Bopanna was nice to sign and pose, and I think he did it since there was an Indian crowd supporting him. My son got an autograph and a selfie with Bopanna.
I also watched Sania practice. Sania's son was also there along with her sister. A local teen was her practice partner since Bopanna had left after his match the previous day. There was with an older non-Indian guy who seemed like a coach (not sure). She was also nice to sign autographs and do selfies with the Indian crowd who asked, my daughter got it. The match started well for our team, but they soon fell away after the end of the 1st set. 2nd set wasn't too pretty. Sania this time did not sign any autographs though the Indian crowd requested. Sania's shots were good but I think she needs to work on her fitness if she wants to compete seriously at this level. The opponents were slim and fit along with having the advantage of being younger (early 20s).
Anyway, I was happy to see both our tennis stars!

Re: Pre-US Open ATP/WTA tournaments
From the photos, it does look as if Sania has put on quite a bit of weight, and the fitness issue is becoming a challenge. When she came back in January 2020, she seemed a lot fitter and the result was an immediate tournament title -- albeit followed by an injury. This time, since Wimbledon, she has looked a bit overweight; her strokes are back, but her movement isn't as lithe as it used to be, and perhaps that is also contributing to a weaker temperament (as in the Olympics R1 match, where it was Sania rather than Ankita who cracked; usually Sania's temperament was second only to Leander's, but currently it seems much more fragile).

Re: Pre-US Open ATP/WTA tournaments
Sania and partner are into the QF at Cleveland:
[R1 / round of 16] Sania Mirza/Christina McHale (IND/USA) d. Andreea Mitu/Oksana Kalashnikova (ROM/GEO) 63 62
Solid win over a decent pairing. Kalashnikova is ranked 68 (having made R3 at Wimbledon this year) and Mitu is 94th. McHale is ranked 113 and Sania 143 in the live WTA rankings (Jabeur is 144 in doubles!). Ankita is ranked 99.
Sania will be partnering Coco Vandeweghe at the US Open.

Re: Pre-US Open ATP/WTA tournaments
At the moment, that partnership wouldn't work, especially at the next Slam. Without a protected ranking, Sania/Ankita would be ranked too low to get into main draws. I presume Sania is using a protected ranking this week, because McHale is outside top-100 in both singles (119) and doubles (112). So, if their schedules allowed it, Sania could easily have partnered Ankita this week (as Ankita has a better doubles ranking than McHale). But I think Ankita is committed to the US Open qualifiers this week.
(I presume McHale is using a protected ranking too, as she would otherwise have to play the US Open qualifiers -- unless she has been promised a wildcard).
