Re: Grass court tournaments 2021
Superb win by Ram over a player ranked over 40 places above him, played perfect tennis and throughout the match faced only a single BP.
Infact could have finished it in straight sets and in the TB came back from 0-4,1-5 down but couple of UFE's went on to lose S2 TB 7-9.
As usual serve was on song with 13 aces and perfect serve and volley routine played out according to the book, but the biggest takeaway which was, gone were those weak floating sliced returns which were the main cause of his recent defeats, and infact today the returns were strong with top spin, and even the sliced returns he executed were low, deep and had a lot of underspin.

Consummate win for Ramkumar in the week before the Wimbledon qualifiers. He needs to win a match or two in the main draw, but then turn his attention to Roehampton, where three wins are essential. But his preparation on grass has gone well this year.

Surprisingly bad loss for Ankita, against a player who is ranked pretty close to her.

Re: Grass court tournaments 2021
Good win by Ram over Zuc ... He has got a lucky break as playing against a similar ranked Argentine Leonardo Mayer, Mayer is an alternate entry ... Though Mayer is a former top-25 player but in 2021 he hasn't played lot of matches.
At Nottingham 2 Challenger 125, Great Britain (Grass)

Nice wins by both RamK and Bops/Divij! Hope both can win a couple more rounds here to gain significant points!

Re: Grass court tournaments 2021
Leonardo Mayer is the rare Argentine who is a good grass-court player: he made R4 at Wimbledon in 2014, R3 in 2015, and made R2 even the last time Wimbledon was played (2019). Should be a good test for Ramkumar.

Re: Grass court tournaments 2021
And the tie break expert does it. RamK wins in third set tie break against Mayer,
At Nottingham 2 Challenger 125, Great Britain (Grass)
[R!] (Q) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,211) d. (Alt) Leonardo Mayer (ARG,ch) 36 63 76(1)
10 aces and won 93% of points on first serve with first serve % of 75%.
Next,
[R2] (Q) Ramkumar Ramanathan (IND,211) vs, Kamil Majchezak (POL,112)
Kamil had beaten RamK in 2019 Wimbledon qualifying, So, he will to play well against Kamil who seems to be good on grass, reached SF last week in Nottingham.

Re: Grass court tournaments 2021
So another nice win for Ram, and as PKB mentioned the Argentinian has a pedigree to play on grass and even frequently employes regular volleying in his game plan which is quite a rarity , he also had some gladiatorial duels with Federer, so definitely a credible win against a quality player with CH 21.
Ram lost the first set with the only 1 BP he faced, whereas his opponent saved all 6 of them, key moment was in the 7th game of S2, where he broke the Argentinian with 2 blistering shots one a forehand and than a single handled powerfull crosscourt which had Thiem,Tsitsi written all over it.
A tough R2 in Majchrzak awaits him, but a focused Ram as today can make a match out of it.

Re: Grass court tournaments 2021
Ankita, partnering Mexican Renata Zarazua just won their first round doubles match at the ITF 100K+H tournament. They defeated one of WTA’s active lesbian teams - Alison Van Uytvanck and Greet Minnen from Belgium. AVU is a top-70 singles player, and considering the pair always plays together and on and off court chemistry, this was a good win. Ankita was the better player on court, today.
Ankita Raina/ Renata Zarazua 6-3 4-6 10-7 Alison Van Uytvanck/Greet Minnen
Our pair will probably face WC pairing of Naomi Broady and Samantha Murray Sharan in the quarterfinals

Re: Grass court tournaments 2021
Terrific win for Ramkumar over a very experienced and effective grass-court player. At last Ramkumar has a proper season on grass and he’s living up to his potential.
Highly unexpected win for Ankita, partnering a Mexican ranked 137 in singles and 245 in doubles. That they beat the 3rd seeds, who play regularly together, is impressive.

Re: Grass court tournaments 2021
A bit of a sweet revenge (albeit in doubles) for the last time she got beat by Greet (in Singles) at the FO qualies about 3 weeks ago, which caused me to write this sad verse.Dinesh wrote: ↑Tue Jun 15, 2021 7:22 pm Ankita, partnering Mexican Renata Zarazua just won their first round doubles match at the ITF 100K+H tournament. Sadly it was short but not sweet
For she got beat quite complete
Couldn't be because of the heat
May be Greet was just too fleet
Anyway, this time, to beat Greet was too much of a feat
Hopefully this defeat won't be a repeat the next time they compete
Might be a memory Ankita would prefer to delete
