In the last 3 tournaments in the matches that Sumit lost he has surrendered the final set tamely.
* Bavarian International lost to N. Gombos 4-6, 7-6, 1-6
* Barcelona Open lost to P.H. Herbert 5-7, 0-6
* Monte Carlo Masters Qualifying lost to S. Travaglia 3-6, 0-6

But in earlier tournaments in Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Zadar, Sardegna and Australian Open he competed well throughout the match.

Is he getting mentally tired from all the travel and tournaments?

I've also seen a tendency of his to get irritated with some silly thing, get upset and then lose the match. Some players do this to get themselves pumped up so that they win but obviously this is not working for Sumit.

I believe Sameer's analysis is probably most on point in that Sumit is still learning on how to compete against top 100 player rather than simply losing due to fatigue or mental focus. Not saying that he can't improve those aspects (fitness, mental focus) but he is 0-3 against top 100 players and 4-1 against challenger players in his 8 matches in April (after having played 9 matches in March with a lot of those bunched together in one tournament).

My take is that he has top 300 level shot making and it is pretty creditable to where he's gotten (i.e., his fitness is actually a strength for him although the mental focus can probably improve). He is similar in some regards to Somdev who also had a top 300 level shot making but rode that to a good stretch in the top 100. Somdev did have great mental focus in addition to great fitness, so Sumit can look to that as an inspiration. Also, Sumit is right now at the age when Somdev started his pro career after NCAA tennis, so time is certainly on his side but he has to figure out what he needs to add to take the next step up.

Generally, agree but I do not remember Somdev suffering meltdowns where he competed for 1-2 sets and then had meltdowns 6-0, 6-1 for three consecutive matches. Somdev used to keep trying until the end.
