Who else, 3 to 5 years from now?... No idea.
I think Sasi Kumar Mukund has that game to reach top 150-200 levels and he is 23, so has time on his hand.

Then, next 21 year Manish Sureshkumar has shown some talent and to a lesser level, 20 year olds Adil Kalyanpur. They are not where a future top 100 or even top 200 level players usually are at their age. But, we have seen late bloomers like Rohan Bopanna or Saketh Myneni. So, hope one or two can make that leap.

But, really nobody looking like a future top 100 level. Maybe have to hope that 12 year old Manas Dhamane who was the Eddie Herr under 12 title last year turns out to be that player. But, too early to say anything right now.

Next great hope is Izhan Mirza Malik. Only thing is we have to wait 20 years. :p
Jokes apart that is the pathetic state of Indian singles today. :damn:
Only hope is if Ankita Raina can break into the top 100 among women.
I think even in doubles the cupboard is bare. Who after Rohan and Divij?

If a this is a pathetic state, what will you call 8 years between 2001 to 2009 when we did not have a singles player in top 200 ( after Leander went out of top 200 and till Somdev arrived).

I am just trying to be relative and find some positive from the current situation. :D

The Goan kid had pretty good results, what was his name again sameer?

And agree that Sasi will get to a career best of top 200.

To RohitG's point, almost all the emerging Asian players are retrievers and are grinders like Som. The non-Nadal Spanish contingent has shown that this is the best way of success for smaller players on the tour, with Ferrer being the greatest example.

Sumit without distractions is from the same template.

Do you mean Terrence Das ? I do not think he is a Goan. But, he had shown some good results at an early age and he is only 18. So, we can hope something from him. He played 2 futures in September but lost in first qualifying round in both. This long break has messed up a lot of people's form and it will take time to get back the same.

He wins it in straight sets.

At $150K (+H) Parma Challenger, Italy (clay)

[R1] Sumit Nagal (IND,127) d.(WC) Giulio Zeppieri (ITA,316) 64 64

18 year old Zeppieri had some very good wins on clay in the last month including one over a top 100 player. So, it is a good confidence boosting win for Sumit against a good European clay courter after a couple of losses on clay in last 2 weeks.

This challenger is preety tough though and he runs into second seed in next round.

[R2] Sumit Nagal (IND,127) vs. (3) Laslo Djere (SRB,73)

Prajnesh is up on the same court next up.

Prajnesh was unlucky to run into the crafty Italian veteran, who was always going to be a handful on clay.
Nice to see Sumit getting a win under his belt in the belated clay season.

Ram loses to Kimmer Coppejans (BEL) 26 57.
If you take out the solitary win against Abhinav Shanmugam at Bengaluru, this marks a 10th defeat in a row since the AO.
Wonder what is ailing him.

Sumit loses in a very close 3 setter against top 75 player Djere.

At $150K (+H) Parma Challenger, Italy (clay)

[R2] Sumit Nagal (IND,127) l. (3) Laslo Djere (SRB,73) 57 64 46

Sumit was up a break in both first and third sets. Only if he could have kept one of those breaks, a big upset could have happened. Djere had beaten Diego Schwartzman in Austira ATP last month. So, it was not an easy match but Sumit to have a run against players at these levels soon.

He was really upset about that line call, which cost him the first set. In the third, Sumit had the early break, but his serve isn't reliable enough. In the tenth game, he had game point at least 4 times, but Djere managed to convert on the first AD that went his way.
