Re: AO 2020
Why would Bopanna partner Uchiyama out of all the players? Would he have got in with Purav? Of course he is entitled to partner with anybody he wants to. Obviously, the answer is known why he didn't partner Paes. Talking in terms of tennis itself and not nationalities, what exactly does his partner bring to the table? If they beat Bryans, then it's acceptable.

Re: AO 2020
Rohan was to partner Shapavalov but it seemed he pulled out of the doubles at the last moment. Rohan did not get any higher ranked doubles specialist it seems. The cut-off was 135. So, Rohan would not have made it with Leander but would probably just got in along with Purav.
Btw, Prajnesh's match against Ito is on Monday schedule - 4th match on court 12 which would be around noon Indian time.

Perils of the high rank singles partner strategy. Great if it works but always the risk that you will be jilted at the altar.

Re: AO 2020
With Olympic around the corner, Bopanna and Divij should play more often.
And wasnt Rajeev Ram injured or something, Sania was suppose to play Mxd with him initially and later pulled out. Now I see him in the MD draw.
Anyways rooting her Bopanna and Mirza

Shapovalov lost in R1 of singles to Fucsovics. Bad karma for ditching Rohan in doubles...

My father and I once gave a lift to him as he was walking to the Asian Tennis Championships venue in Bangalore in 1966. I was a junior calling the lines at the time. He had a beautiful, classic, game that was a delight. I was truly amazed at what a great player he was, and how cultured and soft-spoken. A rarity these days.jaydeep wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2020 7:27 am
Yes, I think after a long time ... The most successful Egyptian player is Ismail El Shafei, who is also the president of the Egyptian Tennis Federation ... His highest ATP ranking was #34 and best Grand Slam results were,
Grand Slam Singles results
Australian Open 3R (1971)
French Open 3R (1969)
Wimbledon QF (1974)
US Open 4R (1974)

Re: AO 2020
Any way to watch Prajnesh’s match? Prajnesh has conceded a break in the third game, and is trailing 1-2 in the first set.

Re: AO 2020
I think there is no easy way to watch the match....
11 unforced errors in the first 4 games by Prajnesh. This hasn't started well.

Re: AO 2020
Prajnesh is often a slow starter, in that he struggles with keepin shots in during the early stages of a match — hence the UFEs. Hope he settles down quickly. 2-3 now; he did put some pressure on the Ito service game (at 1-2), taking it to Deuce. No BPs yet for PG though.

Re: AO 2020
You can catch the action on Sony Six with Somdev Devvarman commentary.. available on mobile with SonyLiv App
This doesn't look good at all. Praj needs new tactics to break Ito, currently playing right into his counterpunching trap.

None of the Indian channels' sports coverage is ever available in the USA, so I am not even going to try to find if it is....

Re: AO 2020
Disappointing. 4-6. He had come close to break Ito on 2-3 games but couldn't quite cut it. Ito's serve is weaker, Praj needs to stop playing behind the baseline against a counterpuncher, that's exactly what Ito wants. Praj also needs to increase his first serve percentage
Second set, Again, Ito somehow manages to come back from 0-30 down. To quote Som, "How many opportunities is Praj Gunneswaran get"
This is getting painful. Exact opposite script on his serve. Same juncture as first set. Ito breaks him
I am waiting for Ito's game to drop. Having watched Somdev in his prime who had a similar game, Ito has to feel worn out as the game progresses
