Nice win by Prajnesh!! Hopefully, this indicates that he is also reasonably fit to compete and does not have any injuries which impact performance.

Sonego, #75 ranked Italian, is as good as it gets as a second round ATP main draw opponent. Hopefully, Prajnesh can get at least one more win here...

That is what I was thinking too. It's a great relief to know that there may not be any serious and lasting injury issues for him (hopefully). If there were, it just wouldn't be possible for him to get a win at this level, not to mention a bagel set and a tiebreaker win on somebody like Janko, however rusty he is.

As per reports, he served at full throttle in this match as opposed to his earlier matches over last couple of months when he had dropped his serve speed considerably. Again an indication that he mostly has got over his injury worries which is good news along with the win.

Lorenzo Sonego, his R2 opponent (I instinctively wrote "Q2"...then corrected myself; it is wonderful that he's playing in R2 of the main draw of an ATP tournament again...) is a clay courter who has lost several R1 or Q1 matches on grass this year. (But he will be consoling himself that that is true of Prajnesh too -- until he notices that our man beat Shapovalov on grass last year). Prajnesh the firm favourite in my book for today's match!

Prajnesh playing singles (R2) and Leander doubles (R1) on adjacent courts in Antalya, Turkey, right now. Both matches on serve in the first set.

Prajnesh is 3 breaks down 0-5 in set 2. Have to break to save the set. Hope he fights hard in set 3.

:damn: bagelled. Won only 3 pts in the whole set. 2 while receiving, 1 while serving. Hope his injuries are not flaring up.
Wasted a gamepoint, saves a break point, finally holds serve. Leads set 3 1-0
Sonego holds serve at 15. 1-1
Holds comfortably. 2-1

At 76 06 44, Prajnesh went through several deuces, but served his 5th and 6th aces to hold! 5-4 in the third...

I had kinda felt that it was coming. Returning from injuries are like this. It's probably a good thing to not over-strain with too many matches this week, when he seems to have reached his previous serve velocity and general form. That he served a couple of aces at crucial points late in the third set shows that things are fine and that he is probably not feeling pain or anything. But let us not overdo it and re-injure anything. He got some very useful points and a good shot of confidence here. Take rest and come back recharged for Wimbledon! Go Prajnesh.

Strange match from Prajnesh. Did he tank the second set in order to come back stronger for the third? Five-setters are likely to be challenging for him, but let’s hope he gets a good draw at Wimbledon.
