And Sumit missed a golden opportunity to pull off a big upset win against Frantangelo.

At $108K(+H) Sarasota Challenger, Florida,USA

[R2] Sumit Nagal (IND,346) l. (7) Bjorn Fratangelo (USA,132) 36 63 67(2)

After losing the first set ( after being an early break up), Sumit came back strongly to take the second set. In the third set, he broke in the first game and was always ahead, missed 2 matchpoints at 5-3, 40-15 on Fratangelo serve. Then, twice had a chance to serve out for the match at 5-4 and 6-5 but just could not hold on.

Came so close to his first big win in a while but not to be. :-(

So sad... But then again, he is playing at a high level again after such a long time. Good to see that.

True, he certainly played like a top 150 player in that match after a long time. I just thought he played too safe when he was on those matchpoints and when ahead. If no had continued to bash the ball like he was earlier in the match the result would have been different.

I guess that is what happens when you are trying to regain your confidence and rhythm. To get past all these ups and downs and to be consistently confident is something many Indian players have trouble with. Trusting your shots without letting your mind get into it, that is. Somdev and Prajnesh have been two exceptions.

A surprising loss of in-form Jeevan and Purav after winning the first set ... They lost the second set and failed to challenge their opponents in the match tie-break.

[R1] (2) Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan (IND)/ Purav Raja (IND) l (WC) Boris Arias (BOL)/ Sekou Bangoura (USA) 75 57 5-10

Yes, Sumit seems to be finally getting into some sort of form.

At $54K+H Tallahassee Challenger 2019, Florida, USA

[R2] Sumit Nagal (IND,344) vs. (10) Santiago Giraldo (ECU,202)

Giraldo is a former top 30 player but that 5 years back. His current results have been up and down. He would be good on clay though. Lets see how Sumit fares against him.

[R2] Sumit Nagal (IND,344]) d. (10) Santiago Giraldo (ECU,202) 6-2, 4-3 (40-0) (Ret'd)

Best win in quite a while for Sumit.

[R3] Sumit Nagal [IND, 344] v. J. Arconada [ARG, 686]

Great opportunity to advance to QF for Sumit against a futures level player but one who is presumably comfortable on clay.

Impressive win (Also, Giraldo is Columbian and Arconada is American).
