Really nice win by Sumit!

He now faces the winner of #108 Lorenzi (who is clay challenger monster with 19 titles but is 37 years old) and #209 Eubanks (who is very tall and likely has a big serve). Sumit should have a good shot at winning against either of them.

Fabulous win for Sumit, our clay court ace. That was a close match, but Sumit pulled through in the end with a couple of service breaks in succession to take it in straight sets. Very nice to see, especially because he was able to avenge his loss in the previous tournament.
Eubanks has been the beneficiary of numerous wildcards, but never quite makes a breakthrough. RamK beat him at the Cinci Masters (R1) in 2017, and I’m sure Sumit will beat him on clay. The veteran Lorenzi would be a tougher proposition.

Sumit is now 303 in the live rankings, just ahead of the 2017 US Open junior champion Wu Yibing.

A superb well-deserved fighting win for Sumit ... Next, he is facing the challenger level 'Nadal', Lorenzi ... A good matchup for Sumit to get chance of playing against a veteran Lorenzi.

Paolo Lorenzi is a late bloomer on the full tour — even as he was one of the greats on the Challenger tour. He had his big year two years ago, making at least R2 in all the Slams and the fourth round at the US Open. Along the way, he reached his career high of 33 in May 2017. Even at 37, he is a tough nut to crack.

Sumit lost the first set 4-6, but broke at an opportune time to make it 5-4 in the second. He is now serving for the second set. Served a DF on his first set point, but then converted his next chance. One set all!! 4-6, 6-4

Sumit seems hurt or lackadaisical or both. His body language is poor. His backhand is being exploited. When he bashes the ball, he plays better but when he thinks, not so good. Ten double faults on an already average serve don’t help either.

Sumit was playing his 9th match in last 2 weeks. With his grinding game and long rallies on clay, that is a lot especially considering that he also played a couple of matches each in previous 2 weeks. Looks like he had no legs left to fight in the third set.

He should ideally take at least a week's break now. But, as of now he is in the draw for Rome Challenger next week and in entry list of Samarkand challenger the week after. That is a lot of tennis to play 6 consecutive weeks with travel acorss the continents in between.

I watched a part of that match and the surface didn’t look like clay to me. It must be a different kind of clay (I remember Jay calling American clay as green clay or something, which it did resemble at least in color).

Yes, it is called green clay. I believe "har-tru" is the name for the type of material. Probably the name of the company that made it popular. Some sort of soil that is found in the blue-ridge mountains or something.
