There was decent foreign challenge in girls and good to see Sharnaya Garware overcome the Thai girl in the final who had upset top seed in the QF. 16 year Pune girl Sharanya is having a good year in ITF juniors. Hope to see her next steps in higher level tournaments now.

So, good to see that in a competitive field with lot of foreign players, 17 year olds Sacchitt Sharma and Shivani Amineni justified their ranking and won the titles.

Sacchitt will move up to around 110-115 in the ITF juniors rankings now, our # 2 behind Mann Shah who is ranked 105. With 2000 born players falling out of ranking at the end of this year, both these boys have decent chance of making the main draw of Australian open juniors. They have another grade 3 coming up in Pune next week where they can improve their ranking further.

But that means they will stop playing the juniors, consider themselves ready for the pro tour, and disappear :)... That is what they generally do in India.

Kasidit SAMREJ (THA) [4] 6-2 6-2 Mann SHAH (IND) [2]

Disappointing that both the Indian top 2 seeds got upset in the SF. Siddhant Banthia had nothing much to gain by winning here as he is ending his junior career but Mann Shah needed points to ensure his entry into main draw at Austalian open juniors.

Still he will some points here with doubles title and should get close to top 100 now and close top 50 when all 18 year olds drop out which should be enough to get him into AO juniors main draw.

Nice to see 17 year old local girl Salsa Aher beating 3 higher ranked players to win the title.

She will need more such results early next year though if she wants to play junior slams later in the year.

Siddhant Banthia has managed his career very poorly. He has hardly played any pro tournaments, and has already reached the end of the road as a junior. Of course, he won the "Road to Wimbledon" when he was about 13, but it took ages before he actually appeared at Wimbledon, and I'm bemused by what he was doing in the intervening years.
