Pranjala lost in straight sets.

[QF] (7) Pranjala YADLAPALLI (IND,283) l. Chihiro MURAMATSU (JPN,412) 26 57

She did not seem to be playing as well as she has been in recent times. Perhaps some niggle.

Yes she looked strained and laboured and head down when moving after the points were finished
In face she even had a break of serve in the 2nd but got broken twice and went onto loose the set and the match.

Venus, of course, has since become a top doubles player (and won a Slam doubles title). But it all began for him in partnership with Yuki at the AO wildcard playoff!
Yuki is a really good doubles player, and if he ever decides to focus on doubles, he will easily be top 25 or something.
Maybe this is where he is headed?

Does not seem like. This would be the realistic option. It is not too much off-topic, but, maybe a kind moderator can move this discussion to the Yuki thread so that it stays.

The main draw entry list came out for Australian open and the mens singles cut off is 101 ( with 3 players entring with PR.). Prajnesh is 9 out with his shadow ranking of 110. Do not expect that many withdrawals before the qualies draw starts. If he had won the Pune final he would have comfortably made it. Oh well. He would be a high seed in qualies though, mostly RamK,Yuki would also be seeds.

9 out is unlikely but not impossible. I hope he makes it to the MD direct.

I am not holding my breath about Yuki playing at all.

Interesting that all the top 101 entered. Some of the ones injured may withdraw at a time when they can collect the 50% of the prize money...

It is going to be a bit like the French Open for Prajnesh, except that this time he will be biting his nails to figure out whether he needs to play the qualifiers at all or get into the main draw at the last minute. I expect many to be injured and dropping out at the last moment. But not clear if as many as 9 will...

9 withdrawals from main draw of a slam is unheard of. Especially with the new rule of 50% of prize money, many will withdraw after the qualifying begins. Perhaps, a lot of chances for those entering the third round of qualifying.

I think he is better off playing the qualifiers - and maybe if he gets to round 3 he may make it into the main draw. Much better than waiting around biting nails.

Of course he will play the qualifiers if he doesn't make it into the main draw. And if he does make Q3, the chances are very good that he will make the main draw either as a qualifier or a Lucky Loser. On current form, I think he is a shoo-in to qualify in. Before the AO qualifiers, I expect Prajnesh to do well at the Maharashtra Open, which will position him even better for Australia.

If Yuki plays, we will have 5 players in mens and women qualifying draws which will be after a long long time, I think.

Australian open will have a first to 10 point tie break in the fifth sets now. With this all 4 slams will have different rules in this regard. Wimbledon will have usual first to 7 point tie break after 12-12, US open having a regular tie break at 6-6 and French open not to have any tie break in fifth set at all.
