Second consecutive week of impressive results from the 17 year old Mahak Jain. She has made intermittent appearances on tour this year (probably mixed in with school); but good to see her return to tennis with some standout results! She has wins over Pranjala, Bhuvana, Sowjanya, Kanika, etc. earlier in the year, including three ITF finals in Indonesia and India (Aurangabad and Gwalior). But Mahak stopped playing the junior events altogether this year (having made R2 at the Wimbledon juniors when she was 15+). I hope she plays all four junior Slams next year to help build up her confidence and profile.

Mahak is not there in the Australian entry list to start with. She does not have a junior ITF ranking now. I do not see here playing lower level events and building up that ranking now. The only way she can play in remaining junior slams of the year is to try to get into top 400 in WTA rankings which gives an automatic place in the main draws of junior slams. Hope she does that that and it looks within her reach.

Really happy to see Mahak is taking advantage of these home ITF tournaments ... She scored a straight-sets upset win over the top-350 French girl Andrianjafitrimo ... Next, she is facing the top-225 ranked Austrian player, Barbara Haas.

Mahak is producing a sensational performance ... After losing the first set she fought back against the top-225 ranked Haas and won the second set ... Now, she is a break up after breaking Haas after multiple deuce.

[SF] (WC) Mahak Jain (IND,682) vs (2) Barbara Haas (AUT,219) 46 63 3-2

Barbara raised her game and broke Mahak in the 6th and the 8th games and won next 4 games to complete the win ... Still, creditable fighting performance from young Mahak.

[SF] (WC) Mahak Jain (IND,682) l (2) Barbara Haas (AUT,219) 46 63 36

She clearly played top-400 or top-350 quality tennis this week. Hope she gets up there soon.

Mahak has more points from 25K tournaments than the 15K ones -which do not count in new rankings system. So, she will have an advantage over other similar ranked players and will move up close to top 500 in the new rankings as on 31st December. Further she has no points to defend till next May end. So, can surely aim for at least top 400 by them which will also enable her to play FO, Wimbledon and US open juniors.
