Yes, both VSP and Bala lost in straight sets in Q2. Tomorrow, wild cards Aryan and Manish play their first round matches. Not expecting them anything from them against top 200 players at this stage.

Just to jump back to the previous research that Sameer had done. Came across two players whom I found interesting

1. Prajnesh's opponent in Pune: Former Junior World No.1. Around the same cohort as Yuki (Yuki was No.1 in 2009, Tsung-Hua in 2008 I think). Tsung-Hua YANG's current rank is 267 and his career high was #164.
2. Sriram Balaji scored a win over Luke Saville (Jr No. 1 in 2012). Luke's current ranking is 472 with a career high of #152 back in 2015.

I would be pretty devasted if I were any of these two players, especially Luke as he comes from Tennis resource rich country like Australia.

Vishnu Balaji do not seem to have a good year. I wonder if they will stick together.

In the meantime, Sumit just lost the first set 5-7 against top seed Radu Albot. Twice Sumit broke back from being a break down only to be getting broken third time at 5-5. He needs to tighten up on his own serve. You will not get so many chances against top 100 level players.

Another very good win for Mukund over Saketh.

At $50K+H Pune Challenger 2018, India

[R1] (WC) Sasi Kumar Mukund (IND,355) d. (SE) Saketh Myneni (IND,265) 64 76(1)

With that Saketh's chances of making the AO qualies have reduced. He will find it difficult to get in with a rankings of around 260.

With this win, Mukund rises to 297 on the new atp live shadow ranking. Now, he should be able to get direct entry into most of the challengers in 2019 given that draw size would be 48.

Sumit's free fall down the rankings brings him to 485 (as per live rankings) making him the seventh among Indian players. It was tough luck meeting the top seed in the first round at Pune. Good to see that he remains in the top 500. (In the shadow rankings Sumit is in better shape at 338).

Great win for Arjun, but what the heck has been up with RamK for a while now. I think he needs some rest, basically. And Prajnesh just keeps on keeping on.... You've gotta love him!
