Karunuday is a lost case. Sad Manish isn’t making use of these Futures to move up.

Hope Manish wins a couple of rounds as he has only 2 points from the higher level (25K futures). All others from the lower level 15K futures which drop off at the end of this year. This will help him play ATP tournaments next year. Kunal probably has earned his first ever point at this level.

I don't think they'll all fall off as such. He would be one of those with highest Transition Tour points. And should be get into Challenger Draws which will have reserved spots for Transition Tour players.

Not that quite on top, Manish is ranked #177 in the ITF (Transition tour) rankings. Arjun is the top ranked Indian at #58. Source: Live Tennis Rankings (ltr.com I guess but I use their app).

@ornatebrute (Sufyan) True but wouldn't it be better if he made it directly?

@bujilover (Dinesh) Shouldn't one remove all the players who will be full-time players at the Challenger-ATP level? If so, 177 will then be an overestimate. I don't see Arjun/Saki playing on the Transition tour next year.

[R2] (5) Manish SURESHKUMAR (IND,526) d (Q) Linus FROST (SWE,938) 7-5 6-2

[QF] (5) Manish SURESHKUMAR (IND,526) vs Filip BERGEVI (SWE, 827)

Bergevi defeated the fourth seed in the first round. Great chance for Manish to make it to the SF.

As I see, even for 25K futures, one gets ATP points only for finalists in the new points structure and those too are bare mimimum. Also, it looks like challenger qualifying points will also get converted into ITF points. So, in effect one has to get challenger main draw wins in order to get good enough ATP ranking. So, whatever Manish does in these is not going to get him into challenger main draws.

He will have to hope to get into around top 50 in ITF rankings and try to get in thru that route and if for that purpose, he needs to play some transition tour tournaments, there is no harm in it. Ultimately, his game has to be good enough to get challenger main draw wins. Othewise, only getting to play challengers also will have no meaning.

Thanks Sameer for the clarification. Looks like are going to have a small number of players remaining on the Challenger tour to start the next year. It might make sense for younger kids to go the NCAA route and try to fast track their way into the Challenger level like Somdev did years ago.

I guess with increased size of challenger draws, the cut will be lower at challengers. For instance, current Chinese challengers have a cut off of around 270-280. It is just a guess but it may go down to around 350 and maybe even lower when there more challengers in the same week. However, since the qualifying draw is only going to be of 4 men, not many will down to play that.

Overall, I think those in top 350 should be able to play challengers. Below that will have to go and play transition tour and try to get their ITF ranking high enough to be able to get into challengers thru that route and then get some wins at challenger level.

For our players, our top 3 - Yuki, RamK and Prajnesh will be well in. Lets see how it pans out for Sumit, Saki, Arjun and Mukund who are currently mostly playing challenger qualies. They will have to get their year end ranking inside 350 or better close to 300 or get their ITF rankings inside top 50.

It is all a bit uncertain how it will play out at the moment.
