WTA125Ks - Mumbai (Oct 29th), Taipei (Nov 11th)

Post by bujilover »

Mumbai WTA125K (the 2017 edition which current WTA sensation Aryna Sabalenka won) starts the week of Oct 29th. Unfortunately, Pranjala's updated ranking of top-280 (next Monday - Oct 22nd) will not be taken into consideration for a direct entry slot but I am sure she will get a wildcard.

But I am confident Ankita and Karman will feature in the direct MD acceptance list (which does not seem to be out anywhere), 2017 cut off was #262.

Two weeks after Mumbai, both Ankita and Karman are in the ALTs list of the Taipei WTA125K but not too far from the main draw list (1st and 4th respectively).

It will wonderful if Pranjala gets a favorable draw and get a couple of wins under her belt. Would that be enough to put her in a good standing for an Australian Open qualies spot?

Varma, there are 5 more $25K ITF tournaments in addition to this big WTA event in India this year, amongst which I think only 2 of them (Muzzafarnagar and Pune 25K) will count for the points towards AO ranking deadline. She might also lose some (16) points gained from a couple of $15K tournaments last October.

To summarize, I think Pranjala will need a strong run in Muzzafarnagar and Pune - at least SF in both will put her in top-280, which will still be touch and go with respect to AO Q cut-off.

But I will defer to Sameer on this to confirm as I always make mistakes :D

You are pretty close to it, Dinesh. :D

In fact the cut off date for AO qualies would be ranking as on 17th December. So, 3 of those 5 25K's would count towards it. ( Muzzafarnagar, Pune and Solapur ).

The AO qualies cut off was 216 last year. But, the qualies draw size has now been increased from 96 to 128. So, expect the cut off to be somewhere between 250-260.

Assuming a cut off of 250, Pranjala will need to pick up around 60 more points from 4 tournaments to get in the qualies ( considering 12 points dropping off).

Will need a SF in all 3 25Ks and a win in Mumbai 125K. Of course a title in one of the 25K's or a couple of finals will also do it for her nicely.

Jaydeep, can you find out any information on whether this tournament is happening or not? There is no entry list update anywhere although the AITA website lists this in the upcoming tournament section. Why can we ever not do anything straight? This is such a big WTA event in India and the tournament website shows nothing but last year's updates. :damn:

The tournament FB page finally shows some updates, that means it is alive. Unsure about the player acceptance list yet.

This is a small update on this tournament -

Mumbai Open Tennis at CCI from October 27

The release mentions about 4 top 100 players which would be pretty good. I think last year there was only 1 top 100 player there.

This is so sad. The biggest women's tournament in the country , just days away from starting.
But no interest shown by the organisors to promote it.
No entry list, no list of wild cards, pathetic. :damn:

No. It is on. It seems there is a press conference tomorrow to give details. Mostly the entry list and wild card would be known after that.

And then organizers complain that Indian crowd doesn't support ... :damn:

I feels, the wild-cards should be given to Ankita, Karman, Pranjala and Rutuja.

True! But let's also hope that AR and KKT have already made it into the MD courtesy to their rankings. In that case I believe the MD WCs should go to: Pranjala, Rutuja, Zeel, Mahak. Q WCs to Riya, Natasha (Nationals RU), Humera (Jr Nationals W), Prerna/Sathwika/Jennifer?

Good choices but I think entry list will be strong as the organizers mentioned that 4 top-100 players have confirmed their entry.

Just checked Wikipedia; Rutuja, AR, KKT, Pranjala have apparently received MD WCs. Last year's singles/doubles finalist, Dalila Jakupovic (SLO, 76), will be the top seed it seems.
