Manish should win the finals if he can get past the Russian.

The aim should be get to top 300 by his 20th birthday so he needs to start winning this level of tournaments.

Yes, it is going to be Manish vs. Ajit final.Very easy wins in the semi finals for both.

[SF] (2) Manish SURESHKUMAR (IND,567) d. (4) Shalva DZHANASHIYA (RUS,592) 63 62
[SF] Ajeet RAI (NZL,1034) d. (Q) Matic SPEC (SLO,1174) 62 62

Next,

[F] (2) Manish SURESHKUMAR (IND,567) vs. Ajeet RAI (NZL,1034)

A battle between 2 19 year olds. A title here would take Manish to top 500.

Looks like points from 15K futures will count for nothing at the end of the year. So Manish better start playing 25K tournaments and collect some points to get ranked for next year. Getting via the transition tour may not be the way to go for someone who is almost in the top 500.

Those points will be converted into ITF points instead of ATP points. There will 4 spots reserved in challenger main draws for best ITF ranked players and 3 in qualifying draws. So, if he ramps up points in 15K tournaments and gets high into ITF rankings, he may still have chances to get into main draw and qualifying draws of challengers next year and get ATP points by winning matches there.

Sameer: My point is that all the effort to get into the top 500 is wasted if one has go through the transition tour again. So our players who are currently on threshold of getting direct entry into 25K tournaments might be better off playing them and collecting a few points. That way, at the start of the next season, they can gain direct entry into events that award ATP points. Also, IIRC, the number of entries via qualifying is smaller.

There will be 48 player main draws at challengers next year instead of 32 currently. So, lot more players will have an opportunity to play main draw of challengers either thru ATP ranking or ITF ranking. How all this will pan out will be only known when the new structure starts next year. But, yes someone like Manish should be playing challengers or at most 25K's next year and not transition tour.

Manish loses the final in 3 sets.

[F] (2) Manish SURESHKUMAR (IND,567) l. Ajeet RAI (NZL,1034) 36 64 46

Manish was up 4-2 in the third set only to lose 4 straight games from there. So, this is a lost opportunity for him. He will still move up to a career high ranking of around 520.

Good for this guy Ajeet Rai though. He will move up inside 800 and to New Zealnd #2.

We can continue discussing F7 to F9 here. KU Singh and Suraj Prabodh are in the main draw entry list here. Siddharth Vishwakarma is in the final qualifying round which will be played tomorrow.

[R2] (Q) Abhinav Sanjeev SHANMUGAM (IND,873) d. (8) Igor SMILANSKY (ISR,605) 6-4 7-5

Abhinav takes out the 8th seed and gets the top seed in the next round. Safiullin is at a career high after winning back to back US$ 25K Futures in Vietnam.

[QF] (Q) Abhinav Sanjeev SHANMUGAM (IND,873) vs. (1) Roman SAFIULLIN (RUS, 272)

Very close loss for Abhinav against the top seed.

At $15K Thailand F8 futures

[QF] (Q) Abhinav Sanjeev SHANMUGAM (IND,873) l. (1) Roman SAFIULLIN (RUS, 272) 76(4) 46 67(5)

Abhinav missed a match point when Saifiullin served at 5-6, 30-40 in the third set. He could have created a big upset there. But, still a good week for Abhinav winning 4 competitive matches and almost pulling off a win against a top 300 player.

I saw part of the 3rd set via live stream. Abhinav couldn't touch Saifullin's first serve and he did an amazing job to hang in there. If there ever is a good loss, this is one. We should consider Abhinav as a player for the future like Manish.
