US Open 2018
Despite being absent from the pro circuit since his 4-set loss in R1 of Wimbledon, Yuki Bhambri (IND, 98) is still listed in the men's singles entry for the US Open this year.
Ankita and Karman could have played the singles qualifiers, but are missing them to play the Asian Games. (A big sacrifice for them, which has paid for Ankita in the form of a singles medal at the Asiad). Same applies to Ramkumar and Prajnesh.
We should continue to be well represented in Men's Doubles with Rohan, Divij and possibly Leander. Jeevan, Purav, Vishnu and Balaji will be hoping to squeeze in too.

Re: US Open 2018
Draw is out and Yuki plays Pierre Hughes Herbert.
They played earlier in the year in Pune and PHH won in 3 tight sets but Yuki was fit and in form then so hard to see past a straight sets defeat here.

Re: US Open 2018
Surprisingly good draw again for Yuki, as in all the other three Slams. He is certainly the underdog again, but if somehow he is actually fit, this will be a close match, perhaps even a win on his favourite surface!

Re: US Open 2018
So... another Grand Slam, another straight sets defeat, another three month hibernation to follow when we all scratch our heads & wonder what the #$@* is going on?
If you expect a different outcome (and you are not the resident incurable optimist), please explain why...

If Yuki wins two matches, we could have a blockbuster match against Roger Federer!!

Re: US Open 2018
Yuki is well-rested, and has been training hard in Thailand. Herbert (FRA, 74) is a doubles specialist who barely keeps his singles career afloat now. Yuki did win a set at Wimbledon (the first one) against a player who shone in the next round (beating Wawrinka).
So I expect Yuki to win a minimum of two sets, and with a bit of luck, finally pull off his first Main draw win in a Slam. If he can beat Pouille, there’s no reason he can’t beat Herbert!

Re: US Open 2018
The day 2 schedule for the non-stadium courts are not out yet - pretty sure Yuki will be on it - I think they would want to get done with Round 1 by the end of day 2. My hopes for Yuki are rock-bottom at the moment and I hope he proves me completely wrong and surprises the heck out of all of us!!

Same here, Prof. I have zero expectations, but would love it if he can surprise us all.

Re: US Open 2018
Probably starting between 4pm and 5pm on Tuesday, August 28th, i.e., around 1:30 to 2:30am IST on August 29th. When Yuki goes completely quiet like this, he usually has been practicing and training really hard, and comes up with a sensational performance (albeit, usually in his second rather than first match). Hopefully, this one will be a relatively easy win, and he can do serious damage in R2 against Kyrgios
