PKB is spot on. Confidence is a crucial part of a professional tennis players success. Like Prajnesh, I get the feeling that this win is not a one-off thing. Niki has overcome injury as well as a mental block. (All of us have been in situations where self-doubt creeps in and affects our performance.)

Confidence and support from friends and loved ones is everything to a tennis player. We have all been through lots of ups and downs, and life on the tour can get very lonely. You have to appreciate guys like Niki who have to slog through qualies all the way to win a title, with little or no support from the Indian news media and the public. One can see that cricket is in India's DNA, but tennis is not there yet.
