Re: Asian Challengers July-September 2018
Arjun fails to get past 375 ranked Japanese Yusuke Takahashi and bows out in straight sets 4 & 4 in his R2 quali, Expected him to win , but sadly the Japanese looked a much better player , breaking Arjun once in each set and than comfortably holding his serve without Arjun bothering him much to take both the sets
Of the 4 Indian players in the qualifying draw only Sid remains , and plays his FQR against the 8th seeded Australian Dayne Kelly for a place in the MD.

Re: Asian Challengers July-September 2018
Lots of Indians playing in the qualies of Shanghai challenger this weekend.
Wins by VSP , Vishnu and Kaza. All 3 against higher ranked players.
But losses for younger ones Manish Sureshkumar, Sasi Mukund, Sid Rawat and Abhinav Sanjeev.
Disappointed with losses of younger ones. So, not putting the detailed results.

Re: Asian Challengers July-September 2018
Only VSP made it to final qualifying round.
At $75K (+H) Shanghai Challenger, China
[Q2] Vishnu Vardhan (IND,1210) l. (2) Aldin Setkic (BIH,319) 46 26
[Q2] Vijay Sunder Prashanth (IND,590) d. Ti Chen (TPE,577) 57 62 64
[Q2] Kaza Vinayak Sharma (IND,911) l. (6) Tristan Lamasine (FRA,346) 67(4) 46
Next,
[Q3] Vijay Sunder Prashanth (IND,590) vs. (2) Aldin Setkic (BIH,319)
It is really tough for these players to be travelling and playing challenger qualies where you need 3 wins to get a singles ATP point. Ok for those playing doubles too like Vishnu and VSP. But, for others such as Manish, Sasi, Sid etc. they need to balance challenger qualies with futures.

Re: Asian Challengers July-September 2018
Watching Prajnesh's match on ATP live stream.
He looked totally off color at the start, making lots of errors to go down 0-5 in the first set. Then, he seemed to have some range in his shots and got back to 3-5 but Rodinov served out for the set for 6-3.
Prajnesh will have to play like he did in the second part of that set now and better to get back into this match.

Re: Asian Challengers July-September 2018
Rodionov broke Prajnesh and was serving for the match at 5-4 but Prajnesh broke him at love with some excellent play.
Prajnesh serving at 5-5 now.
He saves a bp at 30-40 at hold for 6-5.
And he breaks Rodionov to take the second set 7-5. Won 4 games from 3-5 down there.

Re: Asian Challengers July-September 2018
Prajnesh got broken in the third game of third set for 1-2 but broke right back for 2-2.
But, from 30-0 up Prajnesh gets broken for 3-4.
And he got broken again to lose the match.

[R1] (8) Prajnesh Gunneswaran (IND,162) l. Jurij Rodionov (AUT,258) 36 75 36
Not a good match played by Prajnesh. Lot more errors than usual.
Now, RamK will be playing his match on the same court.

Re: Asian Challengers July-September 2018
Both of our guys not only had to make a long journey across continents involving 4 stops, but had to adapt to change of surfaces ,coupled with jet lag, and this probably was one of the factor's in Prajnesh's loss.
Ram on the other a bit durable and robust as far as crisscrossing is concerned and by far very versatile amongst the Indian crop not only as an all surface player but also faster and quicker to adjust to change in surface's had no such problems to all these factors /changes and recorded a commendable comfortable straight sets win.
Taiwan has been good for Ram and really hope he can have deep run to set up a sizzler against Monfils.
