Re: ATP Tournaments in North America, July-August 2018
Yuki has entered the Winston-Salem Qualies... Considering the fact that he would have been Alt#3 with his ranking on the main draw deadline, it is baffling that he did enter then, but then again this is nothing new for us....
On a side note: he probably was thinking of taking a break the week before the USO, but may have entered the qualies here as a warm-up since he had to miss all pre-USO tournaments.
But honestly, how hard is it to just enter every tournament because your ranking allows you to, and withdraw before the deadline akin to booking your hotels well in advance and cancelling before the deadline if something changes? (you'll know this if you are a frequent business traveler)...
Note: Any one planning to be at the Winston-Salem?

Yuki has pulled out on Cincinnati qualies as well so he probably needs any match practice he can get before USO.
I would be quite happy if Yuki is fit enough to play Winston-Salem qualies which looks unlikely tbh.

He is currently not fit to play. He is probably just hoping to get fit in the tournaments he enters and withdraws if he isn't fit when the tournament comes around....

Amazing! He has skipped the entire US hard court season (Wimbledon to US Open), except perhaps the last tournament before the US Open (Winston-Salem)...
The last time he was fit was at Indian Wells in March. I hope all future Indian tennis players pay as much attention to their physique as to their tennis...

It will be disastrous if he doesn't show up at USO. No funding from Govt as well as no prize money either.

He has been shown the way. How to appear and retire in round one.

Is Yuki planning to retire from tennis? Maybe he is on the way to finally calling it quits - make an announcement after US Open? If i am proved wrong and have to eat my words I will be happy about it.

At $778K ATP Winston-Salem
[R1] WC-Leander Paes/Jamie Cerretani (IND/USA) d. 3-Ben McLachlan/Jan-Lennard Struff (JPN/GER) 64 36 (11-9)
An excellent, if extremely close, win which brings up a QF against Qureshi/Sitak. LP at 75 in the live rankings.

What a wonderful week for Leander! Where are all the guys who were calling for him to retire?!
He rises to 69 in the live doubles rankings, despite having missed the French Open and Wimbledon this year (and in fact the entire clay and grass court season).

Re: ATP Tournaments in North America, July-August 2018
I honestly wouldn't have expected that... Best answer he could give to all the Asian Games trouble. Unfortunately, he is likely only an option for Serbia if Bops or Divij are running in injury trouble... But amazing to see this old fart in two ATP tournament finals this year again!
