Actually the Newport grass is never too green, which seems to be to the Indians' liking. It is like those not-so-lush Indian grass courts with similar uneven bounce.jai_in_canada wrote: ↑Sat Jul 21, 2018 8:01 pmThe grass has been greener on the other side for Indians!!! Ram Nam Jai Ho!!!

No RamRAM sounds to odd and something which North Indian's use it frequently to say Hello or Good Bye, and for those naive American commentators it could be alright
Lets stick to Ram or the other names which he was refereed too.

I meant figuratively, not literally.jayakris wrote: ↑Sat Jul 21, 2018 8:04 pmActually the Newport grass is never too green, which seems to be to the Indians' liking. I guess you're saying that the grass has been browner on the other side?

At Atlanta ,Ram against Taylor Fritz in R1, definately a winnable match.
And should that happen , a mouthwatering match featuring 2 Asian stars in R2, and it would be interesting to see how Haeyong Chung shapes up ,coming into this tournament after a long injury lay off

Steve Johnson wins his semi-final easily, so it is RamK vs Johnson in the final tomorrow. Johnson is a former world #21 & will start as the favorite, but this is an eminently winnable match. All the best to RamK!

Ram played better than yesterday. His running forehand winner was a treat to watch. The commentator rightly said he probably saw Pete Sampras there! I called him indian Pete Sampras many years back when he 1st defeated Somdev @atpchennai. Then I just found similarities in their service motion.

Artem Sitak is in the doubles final with Jonathan Erlich. Can you imagine the headlines if Ramkumar Ramanathan had played doubles partnering Artem Sitak?!
Game, set and match, Ram-Sita!

Re: ATP Tournaments in North America, July-August 2018
I have tried to call him RamRam, which I thought was better than RamK, but I was strongly outvoted here a few months ago. I’m happy to switch back to RamRam now!
Final!!! What a wonderful achievement! Somdev made two ATP finals (Chennai and Jo’berg) and RamRam is the first Indian ATP finalist since Somdev. Newport of course has been a happy hunting ground for Indians with Leander winning the title here 20 years ago, Prakash making the final and Vijay winning this title thrice (1976, 1980, 1984), and NRI Rajeev Ram winning it twice.
RamRam now at a career high ranking of 115. Winning the title would give him another 100 points and catapult him straight to #98!

No RamRam again.
One match away from the top 100, let's do it.

Re: ATP Tournaments in North America, July-August 2018
Pkb tried a different variant RamaRama before.
Anyway both of them sound unsuitable
Steve Johnson it is for Ram, an ideal player similar in style to Smychek,Pospisil Kudla the players whom he has beaten in this tournament, and just what I hoped for
The crafty Spaniard would have been a different proposition.
Go Ram!! Get the Title...

I hope Lee has stayed back to support Ram through this final.
I like the support chain - Ramesh mentored Lee throughout the DC matches starting with the tie in Frejus and several years thereafter. Now Lee is giving back and maintaining the chain by mentoring Ram, which hopefully will continue well after this tournament.
Steve Johnson has plenty of practice against the likes of isner and Querry, so this is not going to be a pushover.
Good luck to Ram!!

Re: ATP Tournaments in North America, July-August 2018
Leander won the title here in 1998, Prakash made the final in 2008, so there would be perfect symmetry if RamRam wins the title in 2018! Go Ramkumar!!

Re: ATP Tournaments in North America, July-August 2018
As mentioned earlier Ram up against Taylor Fritz, in Atlanta and hope Prajnesh can join him in the MD and a take up an intresting QvQ opening round slot.
But first things first, need to take care of a winnable Tommy Paul match

Re: ATP Tournaments in North America, July-August 2018
It would be fabulous to have 2 Indians in the main draw of an ATP tournament in the US. (Had Yuki not withdrawn we might have had 3 Indians in the main draw!). Prajnesh’s Q2 match against Tommy Paul is the first match on Stadium Court at 11am today — ie an hour after RamRam’s Newport final begins.
If he qualifies, Prajnesh will face either another qualifier, or Marcos Baghdatis, Lukas Lacko or Alex DiMinaur in R1 of the main draw.
