I don't know why he is expecting medals from women’s team. Despite their improved ranking, Ankita and Karman are about 21/22 nd place among Asians. Even if you discount 10-12 players from there as many are from same country ( China/Japan) and some will be missing due to US open, Ankita and Karman will not be seeded at the Asiad. So, it will be a huge upset if any of them win medals.
The possibility of medals is in mens singles, mens doubles and probably mixed doubles.

Re: Tennis Asian Games 2018, Indonesia - Jakarta Palembang 2018
Based on the player list published on the Asiad website and update from Kamesh in Hindu it appears that Denis Istomin will be the only top 100 player playing in Asiad.
Based on current live rankings, RamK at 118 is likely to be the second seed just ahead of Jason Jung from Taipei with Prajnesh as likely 4th seed.
Japan is not sending it's top 7 ranked players which is surprising. It will be a great opportunity for RamK and Prajnesh to get at least a medal and try for gold and Tokyo Olympics slot although there will be a lot of players ranked between 200 and 300 trying for upsets.
In womens singles, there are 3 top 100 players lined up. Ankita could well be low seed there.
Our best chance for gold will be in mens doubles where pair of Rohan-Divij are likely to be top seeds and Leander-RamK if they play together will not be too much behind.

Yes, Leander pulls out 2 days before the draw because there is no specialist doubles player to partner him. He knew it all along. It is very unprofessional of him to do this at the last moment.
Now, we will have to field perhaps Sumit-RamK as second mens doubles pair.

Paes is a legend no doubt. But he's just taking this sheen of his achievements by doing all this. For shame. Extremely unprofessional and arrogant.

Have no idea why he would commit to this event in the first place. At this point in his career, let the younger generation play the Asian Games. He should have focused on his preparations for the US Open. All the top Asian players are skipping this event anyway as it's right in the middle of the summer hard court season. I honestly wish our top players would have done the same.

Paes is mentally nuts. There is no rhyme or reason why he does what he does. Time for him to retire now.

Paes and drama go hand in hand. I hope this means that his chances of getting picked for the Indian Davis Cup team in the future is finally over. We have waited long enough and need to start supporting our young doubles players (Divij, Vishnu, Balaji, Purav, Jeevan) already.

For now, we need to support Bopanna, Divij, and maybe Jeevan and Purav in doubles at the Davis Cup level if the first two are injured. Of course, support as many as you can (in a top-down fashion) at the ATP tour. Leander is my contemporary and grew up in the city of my birth. His Olympic medal will always make him a hero to me. But, even I have had enough. It is time to move on.

I don't think LP was serious about playing the Asian Games. He was sighted at the practice courts in Cincy as late as Tuesday (08/14) afternoon. Most likely he tried to get into the draw but probably couldn't manage. I think he's just trying to come up with a reason (however far-fetched it may seem) to justify his actions.

That's just stupid behavior. If you are not going to play, just let people know early enough. But, I have stopped expecting LP to behaving rationally. Or at least knowing what on earth could have made him behave thus.

Re: Tennis Asian Games 2018, Indonesia - Jakarta Palembang 2018
This is the detailed news -
Leander Paes Pulls Out Of Asian Games 2018
He states that he was in constant touch with Zeeshan and had not pulled out earlier because Rohan's fitness was iffy. Zeeshan says that he did not know anything about Leander's availability.
Situation is totally messed up. First of all, it was a blunder by AITA selectors to select Sumit ahead of one of the doubles specialists ( Purav,Bala,Vishnu,Jeevan) for the tie and now this last minute withdrawal by Leander. It may mean we miss out what should be a second medal in mesn doubles for us.

Re: Tennis Asian Games 2018, Indonesia - Jakarta Palembang 2018
Biggest flaw here is -
Leander said that he does not want to play with Ram because it might hamper Ram's chances in the singles. But given that Lee has pulled out now, Ram will most likely have to step in for doubles as well, which are going to his singles chances(as proclaimed by Lee). So if his singles chances are going to be hampered anyway, why pull out at the last moment?
Ridiculous!
