Saw parts of the second set of Mukund's match and there wasn't much to chose between him and the Argentinean. If a couple more shots had fallen, he could have taken the second set but overall he did seem somewhat tired. He is definitely looking like a challenger quality player now.

Crazy scheduling for Balaji but I hope he is able to win the doubles matches at least.

It is Thursday and still the qualifying matches aren't complete .
If Bala manages to get on to the court today and should he win , than in a short time he would face the 2nd seeded Hungarian in the opening First Round. Then he has has his doubles matches later in the day , but all depending on the weather permitting.

The organisers don't seem to have any alternatives as there appears no Indoor courts available in Samarkand , But then I don't think even Bombay City has any Indoor Tennis courts , not that I know off.

Qualifying is complete. It is Bala's first round match which is is progress. But, yes it will be heavy workload for him when play resumes, particularly if he wins his unfinished match.

Bala lost in 2 tie break sets.

At $75K+H Samarkand Challenger 2018, Uzbekistan

[R2] Sriram BALAJI (IND,599) l. (2) Attila Balazs (HUN,199) 67(5) 67(3)

Not a bad scoreline at all against a top 200 player and a good run in singles from Bala which will give him 13 points.

Doubles still to come today.

If our teams win their first match of the day, they will play a second one later in the day. Balaji/Vishnu have a later start and hence Balaji has a chance to rest in the morning.

Saki-VSP have a very tough match against Istomin and Elgin who both have a career high of inside top 60 in doubles. So, it will a sort of upset if Saki-VSP can beat them although they are the seeds based on current doubles ranking.

We've discussed this before. But the Hungarians (naturally) are descended from the Huns -- as are the Finns and the Basques (who now live mainly in northern Spain and western France). So naturally Attila is a popular name among Hungarians, just as Taimur (seen as a horrific marauder by most Indians and many Europeans) is a popular name among some Muslims (like Sharmila Tagore's son, Saif Ali Khan, and his wife Karishma Kapoor Khan, who named their son this).

Close but no cigar. Saki-VSP lost 8-10 in the super tiebreak.

They won the semifinals 7-6, 6-3 and got a walkover in the finals.
So title for this pair, biggest one of their career?
