Looks like Ramya retired in the final qualifying match. She took a medical timeout after the end of the second set and tried to continue.

Ramya NATARAJAN (IND,1091) [1] l Yi Tsen CHO (TPE,UNR) 7-6(4) 4-6 0-3 retired

Ramya has a doubles match later. I wonder if she will be able to play doubles.

Great win from Sowjanya. The key to a big win is to follow it up with a string of wins. Good to see Ramya back on court for doubles -- so the injury may not have been serious (or did she RamK? ;) ).

Winner of the above 2 matches plays each other in QF. At least, we will have one Indian in the semis.

We'll have one if Sowjanya wins her R2 match.

I liked bujilover's implicit confidence in Sowjanya...!

I agree with Dinesh (bujilover). I was nitpicking. Sowjanya is a under-ranked at this point and hopefully will get back to the top 600 soon.

But, you should never look beyond a round in Tennis . Sowjanya just lost the first set 2-6 against the Chinese qualifier.

Live stream of Sowjanya's match is on ITF site -

Yes, sadly, Sowjanya lost 26 46. I just logged in and saw them shake hands at the end of the match... :-(

I think Sowjanya took a medical timeout in the first set. So she is might not be 100%.

Zeel easily won against Natasha.

[R2] Sowjanya BAVISETTI (IND,1040) l. (Q) Xinyu CAI (CHN,NR), 26 46

[R2] (5) Zeel DESAI (IND,683) d. Natasha PALHA (IND,939) 62 62

Next,

[QF] (5) Zeel DESAI (IND,683) vs. (Q) Xinyu CAI (CHN,NR)

Zeel has also reached the doubles SF with her Thai partner.

That 17 year old Chinese girl is not even ranked decent in either of the circuits (junior, pro). How unpredictable some of these Indian players are? :damn:
