Re: French Open 2018
What a place for a top-150 upset... It's fun to see Prajnesh play like this. No flash. Just solid ground strokes. He doesn't miss.

Re: French Open 2018
Arevalo's profile page on the ATP site has his photo holding aloft the Bogota Challenger trophy. But what do you know? Our very own Asian clay court monster has just decimated the Salvadoran 64 61 in Q2 of the red clay at Roland Garros!

Re: French Open 2018
What a beautiful display of clay court tennis by Prajnesh to pull off an excellent win. His forehand is really his strength and backhand is not bad at all.Must say the best I have seen an Indian player play on clay. If he plays like he would favoured to qualify.

Re: French Open 2018
Davis Cup hero in the biting cold of Tianjin (beating the reigning US Open junior champion in the decider, no less!). Winner of the $150K+H Challenger at Kunming (on clay amid the misty mountains). Now in the final round of qualifiers at the French Open. What a run of glory!
(He did contrive to lose a R1 singles match at another Challenger, but that was to fellow-Indian Saketh Myneni..!).

Great by the Gunner! He is now guaranteed 21,000 EUR so far. Our first round losers picked up 6,000 EUR.

Wow, what a win. Way to go Prajnesh. Hasn't looked back since that Davis Cup win. As "they" say tennis is so much about what goes on in the head.

Re: French Open 2018
Looks like Prajnesh is truly becoming our clay monster. I don't know if we ever had one. Ramesh Krishnan could win quite a bit on clay but it was never his favorite surface. Somdev was okay on clay but again the dirt was not his best surface. Prajnesh may be the first "clay-is-my-best-surface" guy we have had. But who knows, maybe he will continue the run on grass and hard courts also.
What an amazing story Prajnesh has turned out to be, this year! So unexpected.

Don't forget Ramesh won an ATP tournament held on clay!jayakris wrote: ↑Wed May 23, 2018 3:27 pmLooks like Prajnesh is truly becoming our clay monster. I don't know if we ever had one. Re: French Open 2018
Ramesh Krishnan was very good on clay, but he was even better on hard courts and grass. He won the French Open junior title, and won at least a couple of titles on clay (the first one at Manila, and another at Metz in France, although the latter might have been on a hard court even though it was in France).

Re: French Open 2018
Like I said above, RK could win on clay, but I don't think he would consider clay as his best surface. He did not play the classic clay court game either. He was just good at what he was good at, on all surfaces. But yes, he has the best clay record among all our players.

Re: French Open 2018
After his dad, who made the QF at the French Open, and made the last 16 twice. Apart from Santana, he could beat any of his contemporaries on clay. (Santana had his number though).

Re: French Open 2018
Sure, but I always just keep Krishnan Sr away in all these discussions, as he was from an entirely different era. Yeah, he cold beat anybody on clay.
