Re: Thailand Open 2018
Didn't quite understand the rationale of this non-ATP/ITF affiliated tournament. But I am happy to see Saki getting some matches (&wins) under his belt.

If you click on the Group B players in the photo, there is an uncanny resemblance between Kunal Anand and Yuki Bhambri.

Re: Thailand Open 2018
Both Saki and KU have won their 3rd match in their respective groups. Saki should easily win this title with such a depleted competition (although C Lindell is a challenger level player who is coming back from a 3-month break)

Re: Thailand Open 2018
Saketh's match against Bobrov is available here, if anyone is interested. Apart from the official FB page, it looks like Neo Sports and Prime channels stream the tournament as well. Commentators could do a better job, honestly!
Prize money (in Bahts):
Position Award
Winner 6,00,000
Runners up 3,00,000
Semifinal Loser 1,50,000
Participate Players 50,000 each
Total 18,00,000 each
Winner takes a purse of ~$20K home. Not too bad for a non-ITF/ATP tournament.

Re: Thailand Open 2018
Yes, I was watching 1 match the other day between Saketh and Brazilian Cao Silva. The commentators had no clue about the credentials of the players and were saying Saketh will find it very tough to overcome 959th ranked Silva having a career high ranking of 610. No mention at all about Saketh being a former Indian davis cupper.
Both Saketh and KU have reached the SF. Not sure if SF's were to be played today or will be played tomorrow.

Good for both Saki and KU. $5k prize money for such little work is rare for them.sameerph wrote: ↑Sun Apr 01, 2018 3:52 pmYes, I was watching 1 match the other day between Saketh and Brazilian Cao Silva. Karunuday Singh really impressed in this tournament. I think KU can beat Mayeni.

Re: Thailand Open 2018
Saki beat 763rd ranked Neil Pauffley of Great Britain easily 64 61 but KU Singh lost to Thai #1 Wishaya Trongcharoenchaikul in a close match 46 64 46.
Watched a bit of both matches. Saki still not at his best was still too good for the Brit. Wishaya appears a really good player with a big serve. Hit some 13-14 aces in the match. KU did well to stay close to him till the end but could not break him in the third set.
Final also to be played today in a short while. Lets see what Saketh can do against the big serving Thai no. 1.

Re: Thailand Open 2018
Saketh wins the final when leading 57 62 31 and his opponent retired badly cramping up while playing his sixth set.
Strange scheduling by the organisers to play both SF and final on same day.
But good for Saki to take home close to USD 20K which is more than winning a 100K challenger title in a futures level field.
Hope he plays in Taiwan challenger next week. With his current form I do not see him winning much at that high level but who knows.

Re: Thailand Open 2018
Really a good prize money for Saki ... Importantly he needs to remain injury free for rest of the year for re-discovering his form ... And then he can take a call on concentrating on the doubles from next year or in couple of years.

Re: Thailand Open 2018
Good to see Saketh regain some form. I wonder if he can still use his PR to get into Challenger main draws...
