Sasi stuttered a little towards the end, got broken while serving for the match at 5-2 and was again 0-30 down while serving at 5-4 but won the next 4 points to get the job done. Excellent win for him against a player who was close to top 150 a couple of years back.

Also good singles win for Balaji after a while.

At $150K(+H) Anning Challenger (Clay)

[Q2] (7) N. Sriram Balaji (IND,630) d. (1) Antoine Escoffier (FRA,369) 63 64

[Q2] (5) Sasi Kumar Mukund (IND,514) d. (4) Luke Saville (AUS,452) 26 61 64

Vishnu'a match starting now.

Fabulous wins for Balaji and Sasi. Let’s hope Vishnu is inspired to put it across the ageing Ti Chen too.

Vishnu too qualified for main draw with a 62 64 win. :D

That makes it 3 Indian qualifiers and 5 Indians in main draw.

Prajnesh plays the highest ranked player in final quali round 386 ranked Hugo Grenier. who got in as a 'LL

Hugo incidentally retired in his final quali round when a set and 4-2 down,
Was it injury related or he was just avoiding a ignonimity of being defeated

How wonderful to have 5 Indians in the main draw of a Challenger of the highest-level ($150K+H) in China! Congrats to new father Vishnu as well.

Bad draw for Sasi against this week's champion Halys. I would have liked him to have the draw that either Bala or Vishnu are having in first round. They are more focused on doubles and Sasi needs the points and confidence. Anyway, let's hope we at least get 3 wins in 5 matches.

Only RamK plays his first round tomorrow.

Impressive that Balaji/Vishnu are top-seeded in a $150K+H Challenger. They need to start playing the ATP tour soon. Vishnu is 105 and Balaji 117 in the live ATP doubles rankings. They earn 25 points and share $1930 just for showing up!

Winning the title here should catapult Vishnu into the top-100 (around 92, unless he has points dropping off).

I think Vishnu/Bala have had a mixed season so far. While normally we would consider a challenger title + semis a good season - but I think they would have personally wanted a bit more. Lets hope that now since Vishnu is back, they can go up again!

I think this is one of the easiest doubles draws for a $150K challenger. They could not even fill the draw and had to give bye to top seeds.

Hope Vishnu Bala take advantage
