Nandini made the MD at $15K Solarino, Italy. Looks like Snehadevi withdrew here to play in Egypt but eventually withdrew there as well. She should ask for a WC if she decides to play here.

I guess they may be taking their 10th-12th grade exams. That can be the only reason as both have given up playing juniors now.

I see that Ankita has the Gwalior leg as priority number 2 and Karman has it at priority number 3. Looks like they have their eyes on higher ranked tournaments with this one as a fall back.

That would have been their idea earlier. But, now withdrawals deadline for Gwalior leg is over. So, since they are still here, they would have surely withdrawn from other places and will play at Gwalior.

Karman made the mistake of not playing in Bhopal which she will pay in Gwalior.

My predictions:
Round 2
VESELINOVIC 2-0
CHRISTIE 2-0
DESAI 2-1
WEBLEY-SMITH 2-0

BHOSALE 2-0
BHATIA 2-1 [Pranjala's latest form is worrisome]
BHAMBRI 2-0 [Luangnam is 31 yo and having beaten her 1 in 3 meetings, Prerna SHOULD win this]
MIHALIKOVA 2-0

QF
VESELINOVIC 2-0
DESAI 2-0
BHOSALE 2-0
MIHALIKOVA 2-0

SF
VESELINOVIC 2-0
BHOSALE 2-1

WINNER

VESELINOVIC 2-0

Second round results -

Kanika VAIDYA (IND) 6-3 4-0 Retired Ana VESELINOVIC (MNE) [1]
Freya CHRISTIE (GBR) [5] 6-4 1-6 6-3 Sowjanya BAVISETTI (IND)
Bunyawi THAMCHAIWAT (THA) [4] 6-2 6-3 Zeel DESAI (IND)
Emily WEBLEY-SMITH (GBR) [7] 3-6 6-0 6-1 Monica ROBINSON (USA)
Dhruthi TATACHAR VENUGOPAL (IND) 6-3 6-0 Rutuja BHOSALE (IND) [6]
Riya BHATIA (IND) 7-5 6-2 Pranjala YADLAPALLI (IND) [3]
Prerna BHAMBRI (IND) 5-7 7-6(3) 6-4 Nudnida LUANGNAM (THA) [8]
Tereza MIHALIKOVA (SVK) [2] 6-3 6-1 Sai Samhitha CHAMARTHI (IND)

Strange results as our top 3 ranked players left- Pranjala, Rutuja and Zeel all exited. But, upset wins for Kanika and Prerna against the foreign seeds and Dhruti and Riya against the Indian seeds make it 5 Indians in the QF.

I don't see why the results should be labelled "strange".

Spectacular victory for Kanika over the top-seed:

Kanika VAIDYA (IND, 743) d. 1-Ana VESELINOVIC (MNE, 388) 63 40 (retd) -- how pathetic to retire at 0-4 down.

And superb win for Prerna as well:

Prerna BHAMBRI (IND, 849) d. 8-Nudnida LUANGNAM (THA, 534) 57 76(3) 64 - what a fightback!!

And excellent that we have 5 Indian women in the quarterfinal, even though the precise line-up is a mild surprise to some.

There are 4 Indians in the QF with two of them playing each other.
