Rain in Miami??? 1-1. 30-0 to Yuki on his serve. Probably useful for Olivo. Yuki took him to deuce on his first service game so the momentum was with Yuki.

Q-F - Not Before 2:00pm - Court 3

(9)Yuki Bhambri VS (19) WC Elias Ymer

The 1st round draw is pretty favourable for qualifiers. Noticed a couple of Qualifier vs Qualifier matchups.

Nice to wake up to a smooth victory for Yuki at Key Biscayne (the tournament that used to be called the Fifth Slam, but is now just the Miami Masters). The next one against Ylmer (who won 76 64 against Giraldo) will be tougher, but one that an in-form Yuki should win.

In the top half of the main draw, there are two qualifier vs qualifer matches; the winner of one plays Jack Sock (delicious for Yuki!) while the other plays Federer!
In the top half, three other qualifiers get to play Nishioka (vulnerable as he’s returning from injury), a wildcard or Radu Albot. All beatable.
In the bottom half, there is another qualifier vs qualifier matchup, with the winner playing Krajinovic (opportunity!!). Other qualifiers play wildcard Eubanks (the guy RamK beat in R1 at Cincinnati), Gojowczyk, and Chardy. Eminently winnable R1 possibilities for Yuki. But first he must beat Elias Ymer (whose younger brother Mikael has a main draw wildcard).

Yuki has a tough match against Ymer but one he should win.

The qualifier draws are about as good as it gets - 6 qualifiers play each other, 2 play WCs (Eubanks and Kuhn), 1 plays a PR (Nishioka), and 1 plays a MDA (Albot). The other 2 opponents (Gojowcyzk/50 and Chardy/90) are also beatable.

Good to see Yuki continues with his good form ... With his current form, a winnable match for Yuki against Elias Ymer.

This year, so far, Ymer has played at total of 15 matches and the highest ranked player he had beaten was Pedro Sousa (#126). Barring a disaster, Yuki should win this match comfortably.

Yuki played against E Ymer once in 2015 in Aptos challenger where he lost in straight sets..2-6,2-6.
so not going to be a easy one..but considering the form he is having right now he should definitely win this.. :goodluck:

Ymer also beat #120 Stakhovsky in January, so he's in decent form but Yuki is in better form...

Michael Mmoh beat second seed Mirza Basic in straight sets to qualify for main draw. So, RamK did run into a player in hot form this week.

Match prior to Yuki-Ymer has gone into third set. So, it will be at least about half an hour more before their match starts.

2-2. Both have just lost 2 points on their serve so far.

YB saved a bp at 2-3 30-40 to level it up at 3-3

Another bp saved at 3-4 30-40 to level it up at 4-4

EY taken to deuce due to a df but holds for 5-4

YB gets taken to deuce x 2 thanks to 1 df but holds for 5-5

YB Breaks for 5-6!!!! 40-0 and then 5 points in a row :bounce:

YB holds to 30 to take the 1st set 7-5

First set - Yuki breaks to 6-5 and for the first time, he edges EY on first serve return points won (30% to 28%) and second serve return points won (47% to 45%). I was wanting to see those percentages turn throughout the set - glad to see it finally happen.

He also has an edge in first serve and second serve points won..lets hope he keeps that gap in the positive territory when he serves next. This is a heck of a close first set.

UPDATE - he keeps the 2nd serve edge going - holds to win the first set 7-5. :D
