This is pretty poor doubles from our guys , can’t remember either of them hitting a single volley well.. we were lucky this went to TB, in the end lost the set 6-7

Bops and Saketh are being rolled over. They are down a break in the second set. The Serbs lead 2-0 in the second set.

It will be over today itself. :damn: This experimentation is not helping - either drop Bopanna and field a regular playing doubles team in or ask the team to be fielded for national DC duties to play a few matches together prior to such duties.

And we just got broken again, Saketh has been making a lot of errors. :-(

This is just one way traffic , SRB don’t need to do anything extra ordinary, our guys are just too poor.. for a top ranked doubles player Rohan is just way too one dimensional.. Saketh has been bad throughout

Are they trying to mount a heroic comeback here by playing pathetic tennis in the first 2 sets? Because if they are, it will not happen now that the Serbian team is playing like a top-10 team in the world.

Its done and dusted. The Serbs bag the third set in a tie break as well. Bops and Saketh were leading 5-3 at one stage in the third set but couldn't take advantage of that break of serve.

Joke of a doubles match. Almost half of Saketh's returns went to the net. And Bopanna couldn't carry the team either. At least the hype about the tie is now over. We simply belong to the Asia Oceania Group I and that is never going to change until we produce some top singles talents that do not get injured often and can play at the world level and train a regular doubles team for national duties. :kookoo:

We have to wait for some of our old baggage to retire and start from scratch for the next gen. This situation seems to be repeating over and over again.

Looks like i didn't miss anything. The team needs to rebuild from this loss and move on. The guys need to build their individual and doubles rankings and regroup for next year. Will need a new doubles team for sure.

A country of 7 million beat a country of 1.3 billion, without losing a match, and they didn't even field their best team!! ☹
Not a great week to be an Indian sports fan - at least not for tennis and cricket.

What's population got to do with it? I guarantee you they spend many times over what we spend on tennis.

I wouldn’t be too sure about Serbia spending more than India.

https://www.nytimes.com/2010/12/02/spor ... KOVIC.html

From an article about ten years old cited above, read this:

The bandwagon is getting heavier, and there are plans for the Serbian government, no major player until now, to fund a new national tennis center next year with at least five indoor courts, 15 outdoor courts and a residential complex. The estimated cost is €8 million to €9 million, according to Zivojinovic, 47, a Wimbledon semifinalist in 1985 who is now president of the Serbian Tennis Federation, with an annual budget of less than €2 million.

I first had to calm down and go for dinner with the ITD guys. Will likely not complete the pictures tonight, but tomorrow early morning European time.

Feel very disappointed. Maybe I am pathetic or idiotic, but for me this match closed the era of the Amritraj brothers, Ramesh Krishnan, Leander Paes and last but not least Mahesh Bhupathi - true heroes in Davis Cup best-of-five sets doubles tennis who always gave their best for their country and never gave up.

I would have loved to see a great doubles tennis match, even regardless of the result (if it was a great battle). Haven't seen that.

Match report tomorrow... Still very disappointed...
