Re: Davis Cup 2018 - India
Leander has gone past the 3rd round once in his last 14 attempts at a GS.
He has also lost 3 of his last 4 matches at the Davis Cup level.
He is also 44.
It is high time this board moves on.

Re: Davis Cup 2018 - India
China it is , and they scored a comeback win over the NewZealanders who simply buckled up ,starting with the doubles where they were the favourites but went down tamely in straight sets, and Rubin Statham made the perfect start against the green horn Wu Yibing taking the first set 6-1 , but once again lost the momentum to hand over the match and the tie to the Chinese.
So as expected it is the Chinese in China , and probably we could see Clay Courts waiting for our Team.

Yes, it is going to be India vs. China on 6th-7th April, 2018. I am not so worried about clay courts waiting for us. The Chinese players are not so good on clay courts and our players are much better on it these days.
Pakistan beat Korea 4-0 on grass courts at home. So, it will be Pakistan-Uzbekistan again in Pak for the other second round match in Asia Oceania group I.

Re: Davis Cup 2018 - India
Our players, Yuki in particular have generally played well on outdoor courts in China in challenger. So, this is good news. Having shorter best of 3 matches will be a bit of a challenge. Generally better players win over longer best of 5 set matches. Over short matches, there are greater chances of upsets.

Shorter format serves Yuki better. Things are working in our favor so far. I hope it is not 3rd set STB in doubles which makes it a crap-shoot, more or less.
Is it going to be Rohan-Divij for doubles team? Let's see how the drama unfolds this time

Shorter format is better for Yuki - indoor would have been even better.
As far as doubles goes, it looks like Rohan-Saketh is Mahesh's go-to guys although with 5 players in the team, he really does not have his usual excuse to get Saketh in (i.e., he can play singles if needed).

Saketh played in Chennai challenger this week. We don't know how good Rohan-Divij will be together because they have never played together.

I agree with that. In the best of 3 set matches against China, it would be better opportunity for them to create upsets than a best of 5 set matches.Mahesh said that the new format may make it difficult at the zonal level, but felt that India could have a chance against the big teams at a later stage.
“At the Asia level, it is a disadvantage, to have short matches over two days. We have the experience to pull off long matches, especially at home in our hot conditions. If we can get to the qualifying and World Group, it would be an advantage, as it is easier to cause upsets in two out of three sets for us,” Mahesh said.

Re: Davis Cup 2018 - India
Davis Cup website says we are going to play in Tianjin. China chose to play Friday / Saturday, which will make it absolutely impossible for me to travel there (chance has been small anyway):

Outdoor hardcourt... Should be doable, I guess...

Re: Davis Cup 2018 - India
Before everyone jumps on the bash Bhupathi bandwagon it seems a very sensible idea to me to make sure that everyone is rewarded for their efforts. What we should be up in arms about is AITA refusing to agree to the proposal to pay the physios as well. It's a team effort.Ravishankar Krishnan wrote: ↑Tue Mar 06, 2018 10:14 am This is quite pathetic, to be honest.

The “prize purse” is pretty puny anyway. I don’t think Hesh needs an extra Lakh of rupees (less than what a player earns for playing Q1 at Indian Wells...).

So, if we play 3 ties, the players get around $5K each.
Hopefully, they also get airfare from a foreign location (if they are playing somewhere) to the DC venue and back to the next playing location. Otherwise, they could end up losing money in playing DC matches...
