Re: Davis Cup 2018 - India
Yeah RamK ground game was not upto expectations, though he did well at net but not enough against clay courter in Serbia. Disappointed in RamK backcourt - he is way too defensive and although he has the tools to transition from defence to offence he rarely does so. I think it is a fitness issue - in order to play in the top 100 RamK has to get at least 15-20% fitter - strength conditioning + endurance on the court - so that he can execute the defence/offence combined strategy - he will get nowhere if he does only defence.
Anyway on to the next match.

Serbia up 2 sets to 0 against us. Prajnesh is playing well off the ground, but is unable to close and finish points at net. Returning well, good rallies, but Dusan Lajovic is just a tad better at everything at this stage. But we have known the Gunner to come back strong from deficits...lets hope he has some extra mojo left in him.
Re: Davis Cup 2018 - India
Prajnesh has just lost in straight sets - Serbia up 2-0.
Prajnesh has some critical issues that he needs to overcome....I'm seeing this in every match he plays:
1. Unable to put away simple shots at the net - time and again he either fluffs these or chooses to drive a high forehand instead of crouching and punishing an overhead with a sitter at the net. Invariably loses these easy setups over and over again.
2. Gets opponent in an untenable position with some great aggressive groundstrokes and with the opponent on the run with no option but a defensive shot, he chooses to stay back and punish the ball to the other end - frequently missing or allowing the opponent to get back into the point at that stage. So all the great shots played to set up the kill have gone to waste.
3. His net game truly is not up to the mark for a top 100 player - this needs to improve a lot before he can even make a mark here.
Otherwise I would say that he has a complete game from the backcourt - wish someone could have brought some focus into these shortcomings many years ago and we would have had a top 50 player by now.
Our guys are paying the price - no investment in tennis coaching, facilities, infrastructure - truly India does not give a damn.

Re: Davis Cup 2018 - India
Love 2 down and with little bit of luck could have been 1 all , Ram played exceptionally well, serving , volleys , chip & charge ,amazing retrieving skills and his entire repertoire was on full display , But eventually the Serbian raised his game and played the crucial big points better and his experience being a Top 100 made all the difference , the turning point was when he got broken at 4-5 in the second set which was the missing piece of jigsaw in the second set, He did extremely well to take it to TB even in the 3rd set but the Serbian hard flat strokes proved to be decisive as many a time's Ram was perfectly at the net but the tremendous pace was difficult for Ram to control the volleys.
Doubles if we win and which looks a highly probability , would again pit Ram in the 4th match to get us on even terms and feel more confident about Rams chances here than the first match he played.
Couldn't watch Prajnesh match , but the score line and comments here don't give the impression that he is playing well , but you never know as this is DC and if Doubles and Ram can get us back on level terms, than once again it would be time for Tianjin 2.0

Hopefully we can pull through in the doubles - not a done deal - but if we pull that off and RamK gets fired up for his reverse and pulls off an upset then who knows we may have a Tianjin repeat. Lets keep our positive thoughts going!

Have to disagree - I would hesitate to describe his play in such glowing terms. He digs himself in a hole over and over again, and then tries to come back with some desperate scrambling and heroics which look great and no doubt will win him some applause - and if he is lucky and catches someone on a bad day he may pull through. But the coach in me sees so many problems - ground strokes that are consistently short, excessive reliance on slice backhand - look the guys backcourt shots consistently fall within 1-2 feet of the service line, so he has no option but to scramble like crazy. It's not like he doesn't have the game - he refuses to be more aggressive. Over and over I see the same thing - most everyone in the top 100 knows exactly how to handle him by now.

Re: Davis Cup 2018 - India
Hi,
here is my report and some (roughly 660...) pictures:
https://flyctory.com/2018/09/15/davis-c ... dia-day-1/
I felt both our guys did a good job. Lajovic is just too experienced - and maybe too strong - for Prajnesh at the moment. Praj need to work on his killer instinct. Too many points where he could not convert a clear advantage into countables. The comment about coaches is right.
Somehow, you see a certain limitation in Ram's game as well. I just love to watch him... A little bit like Leander. Fighting til the end, never give up and always between genius and... I would never use the word I thought of about an Indian player...
Let's see what is possible today. Hope we have some nice DC party. An era about to end, last Indian best-of-five doubles in DC history. Would somehow love to have Lee and Hesh on court to seal #25...
Don't stop believin'

Two Serb with love!
Let's hope there are more breaks of Serb(s) in the next 3 matches!

The DC website does not show any details on the doubles, other than Rohan now paired with Saketh. What happened?
Re: Davis Cup 2018 - India
Mahesh has a lot of experience - this should help with tactics on the ground. Easy to lecture from air-conditioned living room. The reality on the ground is very different!!

Yes, Saketh is playing in place of Balaji. Bopanna is serving 4-5 to stay in the first set. Lots of aces from both the teams.
We just held at love. The Serbian doubles team of Danilo Petrovic/ Nikola Milojecvic is not that experienced but they serve equally well. Petrovic is 6'8". India lost the first set TB.
