Damn, I was/am expecting Pranjala to do what Karman did last year, getting up from top 500 to top 300. But, she starts the year with 2 poor losses in back to back weeks. :-(

Looks like Pranjala decided to extend her trip as she is in the Q-draw for this week seeded #1. Let's hope the doubles final run last week and the Q matches take her game to the level where she stands.

Bhuvana and Nidhi qualified for the main draw this week.

Q1
Bhuvana KALVA (IND) BYE
Ashmitha EASWARAMURTHI (IND) BYE
Anna KLASEN (GER) 6-1 7-5 Moulika RAM (IND)
Nidhi CHILUMULA (IND) [5] BYE

Q2
Bhuvana KALVA (IND) 7-6(4) 6-3 Nathalie JOHANSSON (SWE)
Fang-Hsien WU (TPE) Walkover Ashmitha EASWARAMURTHI (IND)
Nidhi CHILUMULA (IND) [5] 6-4 6-2 Alexa PITT (USA)

Q3
Bhuvana KALVA (IND) 6-0 6-2 Barbora MIKLOVA (CZE) [1]
Nidhi CHILUMULA (IND) [5] 6-3 6-3 Yuka HOSOKI (JPN) [11]

Nice upset win by Bhuvana over qualifying top seed.

So, we have a big continent of 7 players in the main draw this week.

Main draw-

[R1] (WC) Sri Vaishnavi PEDDI REDDY (IND,NR) vs. (1) Nastja KOLAR (SLO,411)
[R1] Zeel DESAI (IND,707) vs. Alexandra RILEY (USA,838)
[R1] Sai Samhitha CHAMARTHI (IND,934) vs. (Q) Alicia SMITH (AUS,1039)
[R1] (Q) Nidhi CHILUMULA (IND,967) vs. (7) Julia TERZIYSKA (BUL,594)
[R1] (Q) Bhuvana KALVA (IND,NR) vs. (Q) Pei Hsuan CHEN (TPE,974)
[R1] (4) Rutuja BHOSALE (IND,545) vs. Kumi SO (JPN,784)
[R1] Kanika VAIDYA (IND,674) vs. (WC) Greet MINNEN (BEL,766)

Vaishnavi has the toughest match against top seed while Kanika has a tough one too against a former top 300 player who seems to be making a comeback from injury.

Yes, these are disastrous results especially the losses of Rutuja and Kanika. So, only 2 Indians in the second round.

[R2] Zeel DESAI (IND,707) vs. (LL) Barbora MIKLOVA (CZE,913)

[R2] (Q) Bhuvana KALVA (IND,NR) vs. (5) Mariam BOLKVADZE (GEO,584)

Zeel was slated to play the top seed but how lucky that she is now facing a lucky loser. Hope she takes advantage of this. Considering her Junior circuit success, she is clearly under-ranked.

Zeel gets the win in straight and Bhuvana puts up a good fight against a seed after getting bagled in first set.

[R2] Zeel DESAI (IND,707) d. (LL) Barbora MIKLOVA (CZE,913) 63 75

[R2] (Q) Bhuvana KALVA (IND,NR) l. (5) Mariam BOLKVADZE (GEO,584) 06 62 46

Next,

[QF] Zeel DESAI (IND,707) vs. (7) Julia TERZIYSKA (BUl,540)

This is a tough one for Zeel. Julia won back to back titles last month in Egypt and so is on a 12 match winning streak.
